urine smell Boy do I love Charlie, but he's just awful on the training. It's hit or miss no matter what we do. He is now 7 months old. I'm okay that it's slow going. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for getting the odor out. Most of my house is hardwood and tile so no problem. But my landing and stairs are carpeted and I have two area rugs, one a beautiful oriental. I'm wondering if I called Stanley Steemer if they'd get the stains and odors out? Anyone have suggestions? I do use Natures Miracle but the problem is if it's not caught right away. The oriental is dark so the stains don't show. You can only treat it if you catch him. I hate the thought of replacing the rugs until he's fully trained, but I'm embarrassed about the smell. (I'm also open to purchasing a home vacuum that cleans pet stains as well as hiring someone.) Any suggestions? |
You might want to try the belly bands for him while you are training him so that he won't get the rugs again after you clean them. Belly bands with a disposable pad are a easy solution to the smell and damage from a boy who is not fully trained. Some of the YT members sell them here. |
When I had a house with carpeting, I had it cleaned regularly with Stanley Steamer and it did help. When I had a house with hardwood - I bought cheap throw rugs and even bought my oriental rugs from like Big Lots (they had some nice ones). That way, I could toss them after a few months if need be. Now, I'm back to a house with a lot of carpeting and worried myself! |
Ditto - our old house was wooden flooring throughout, now we have all carpet. I'm also worried! But I live in Scotland, so Stanley Steamer doesn't exist here. Saving up for a carpet cleaner I can keep at home. Willie's having a toilet training wobbly... |
Get a black light. Urine will fluoresce under it in the dark so you can see exactly where the spots are that need to be treated. I bought one similar to this at Petsmart. Simple Solution Spot Spotter - Dog - Free Ship - PetSmart Once you've located the spots, you can treat them with the Nature's miracle. |
Ugh i have just had Poppy 3weeks and already my livingroom stinks of wee!! Its driving me crazy! My have carpet down think i need to get a steam cleaner xxx |
I spent over 200.00 on a cleaner and I wore it out in a years time. Today I rented the Rug Doctor at our local grocery store and it worked awesome!!! Planning on getting rid of the carpet this year, can't wait. |

Exactly what I was going to suggest! Black lights are a must when housebreaking! |
I do miss my hardwood floors. They are beautiful and just great if you have animals. A little hard on my old knees; but I still miss them. Now, I have cream color carpeting!!! WTH! I have a Westie that spends a lot of time digging and comes in filthy and then Miss Lucy - who thinks they are all wee wee pads. |
Nature's Miracle or any enzymatic cleaner will work on urine stains, new or old. Older stains may require a few repeat applications. Be sure to use the cleaner before applying anything else for odor control that may render the enzymes inactive. Women's Douche products will kill urine odor, and vinegar will also. |
