Grooming ? ? ? Hi everyone! i just have a few questions about grooming Hazel. First, she is going to be 11 weeks old next week. is this too young be be taken to a groomer for services? i have "groomed" her myself a little [ears, paws, butt]. i guess this is enough? i take her to petsmart when i need her nails clipped because i am scared to do it myself and they do it for free. i did buy a nail clipper to attempt it myself next time. i called one groomer adn they straight out told me that she is too young to be groomed. others have had no problem in saying that they would groom her. |
If she hasn't had all her vaccinations then she is too young. I don't even think I'd bring her for a nail clipping to Petsmart. Thats an animal store and lots of animals come through there, you really don't know what kind of disease or illness she could pick up. If you really want her groomed that bad, have you looked into a mobile groomer who can come to your house? I think I would feel more safer using someone who could come to my home. I had a puppy die at 10 weeks and personally wouldn't jepordize the puppy by taking it ANY where until it is fully vaccinated. |

AWWW you puppy DIED at 10 weeks? HOW?!?!?!? i'm sorry! but yes i took her to Petsmart 2 times. i watched them clean the clipper, and they held her in their arms the whole time. i was warned about taking her to places like this. she gets her second shot friday =] i mean, i don't NEED her groomed, i'm scared of hurting her if i do it myself. as i said i did do her paws, her ears, and a little around her butt by myself. |
What Mama said. wait a bit until she is older. As far as Petsmart, I took Carlo there one time for a Bath and Nail trim in AZ. After that one vvisit, it took me a year to let him have anyone trim his paws. Not sure what they did, but that was it. |

i have heard good, and BAD things about petsmart. i haven't decided on where exactly i am going to be getting her groomed yet, i was just looking into it. |
Jackson was 4 1/2 months old at his first professional grooming. I would definitely wait a little bit. The vet cut his nails at his 12 week appt. |

Hazels nails grow FAST! sheesh! ahaha. but she loves to be in my arms, and she gets so excited and wiggles which results in me being scratches with welt marks all over me! but i'm sure they'll cut her nails at her appointment on friday at the vets! |

Has Hazel had her rabies shot yet? My Petsmart wouldn't do even nails without a rabies tag on my Boxer...I had left it home so I ended up doing him myself. You are doing good brushing her and making sure she is clean. Friday let the vet trim her nails and soon enough you can have Hazel done by a groomer...ears shaved and plucked, bathed, blow dried and you'll be all set! |

It's good that you are getting her used to being groomed by you. She will get used to it in time. I don't do Bentley's plucking inside his ears...I let the groomer do that. Good for you that you know how to shave her ears...I do that also myself. I don't want anyone messing with his ears. I just want him to go to the groomer once every month to month and a half to be used to getting groomed by someone other than me. You never can tell if you won't be able to groom him and need someone he knows to do him. |
