Chiropractic adjustments for dogs?
 

Have you had an adjustment done on your dog(s) and if so do you feel it helped them? What changes were you looking for and what changes did you see?

Might help: we once had a cocker spaniel that (at only 3 yrs old) got so stiff she could hardly walk, every vet wanted to do expensive surgery, which was out of the question. I decided to call one more vet and he came out to the house gave her a steroid shot and she went on to live with nary a back problem again until she died at age 15. The vet's response: don't get sucked into surgeries and gimmicks, as most vets are in for the money, think like a person...if you had a stiff back would you automatically do surgery without trying a medication of some sort? He's still our vet. He's honest and knowledgeable and never sticks you with some sort of wacky expensive care all based on a 'guess'.
So in other words, maybe your dog just needs a shot of pain med or something for a pulled muscle??? Worth a shot (no pun intended). Just trying to be helpful, as I know there are so many vets out there advising all sorts of "cures" when often the simplest thing is the fix and the first to be overlooked.

I took Megan to the vet for an evaluation on Wednesday and she pointed out a few things that showed she really needed to be adjusted. I noticed some subtle changes just after a few hours and I'd like to hear from others who have gone this route to see if they noticed changes too or if I'm just imagining things :)

Well a couple of things I'll share. I would not do too many adjustments on a young pup/dog. I also looked awhile to find a vet here that took a chiro course for dogs. When I brought my adult male after a back injury, I did a series of eight treatments, and noticed improvement after about wk 4.

I also used an vet who has specialized in acupuncture with good results on one dog and not so good on the other dog. It might have been one really relaxed on the table and the other just wouldn't.

The vet I used is trained in both Western Veterinary medicine and alternative methods of care including chiropractic, applied kenetics (I think that's what it was called) and accupuncture...she also uses Chinese herbs and essential oils and takes great interest in nutrition and balance of the entire system in general.

She was with us for almost 2 hours and I felt she gave Megan a very thorough evaluation. Megan will be 3 in a few weeks. She gave me an herb to give twice a day, essential oils for fleas (which worked and it smells good!) and she wants to see her again in 2 or 3 weeks to see how she's doing.

She also said the Fromm's food was a great diet for my girls. The 'other' vet last week told me it wasn't and I should be feeding Pro-Plan, Science Diet, Iams or Eukanuba...yah, right :rolleyes: I cancelled my appointment I had for Megan to go back there and have her anal glands rechecked...I'm sticking with the vet who, I felt, actually cared about my girls.

Oh, and you know what was really great about this new vet? I noticed right away when I walked in the door...nothing but a waiting room and reception desk...nothing for sale, no shelves full of dog food to feel obligated to buy...just a clean waiting room :)I liked that.

The benefits would be the same as a person going to a chiropractor. If your body is in alignment and balance then everything works properly without pain. Chiropractic services can help with health issues of all kinds.

I think so too :) I took Maddie Jo in today to have her nails trimmed and took my husband with me...he was even impressed. I think I'll be sticking with this one...I really like the way she does things.

Oh and...the 2 vets I mentioned are in 2 different towns...not in the same office...and the one I like is even closer to me :)
