Advice for bows... I bought the cutest bows on Ebay for Khloe to wear and have tried putting them in her hair. However, she scratches and rubs her head against our couch, and eventually gets them out every time. Any suggestions, or is it too early? She is 3 1/2 months old. Thanks! |
We are bow training right now, too. :) Start with just a grooming band. Do that for a few days or however long it takes for your baby to get used to having her hair in the grooming band. Then move on to small bows & do the same thing. I've found that bows with an alligator clip or barrette on back bothers Lulu b/c it's heavier than the ones that have bands on them. So, I've taken to just using ones with bands. Also, once I've put the bow it I keep Lulu busy or hold her until she's forgotten about the bow being in. That helps keep her from immediately trying to scoot it out. We're still working though & dont' claim to be experts. ;) BowBiz has a good video on how to attach a bow. It helped me! |
Thanks so much; you are much more of an expert than I am! I always had boys and they were bandanna guys, so I am desperate to get a bow in her hair. (: I will start with the training band, like you said. That's very wise; she ruining bows left and right! Bowbiz; how do I find this? :) |
Here's the link to BowBiz. Susan is a member here. I've ordered from her & she's great! Dog Bows, Quality Dog Bows - Yorkie, Maltese, Shih Tzu - by BowBiz The video is here. How To Put In Dog Bows : Dog Bows, Quality Dog Bows - Yorkie, Maltese, Shih Tzu - by BowBiz Good luck! |
I agree with the grooming band. I started with cute bows and Piper had them out in a minute. I used the grooming bands and they don't seem to bother her as much so she doesn't try to get them out. Even if she tried to get them out, I don't think she'd be able too. |
Thank you both! (: I will try the grooming band out. I know that she will need them for more than for cosmetic reasons when she gets older. And just like the irritating collar that she can't stand, she must get used to both. She is a finicky little puppy. OCD, maybe? |
bows? well i'm glad i'm not the only one. bella looks really cute with her bow's but she manages to take them off in less than a minute. she starts by putting her paw over her ears then she shakes her head and it's off. i get really frustrated because she looks pretty but no one can ever see her cause she takes them off. now that i've read this thread i can say she takes them off cause she's not use to them so i will try what you said with the bands. there's so many cute things out there that i want to buy for her. i'm glad i read this thread thanks again.:) |

Susan is great - she actually makes all the bows to order, they are not made in advance. Beamer is a little boy, and he loves his BowBiz bows. |

What is funny is that Beamer , a male, loves his bows. Lil Bit, a female, we have to keep shaved down and she doesn't wear bows. So, people that come to the house often think Lil Bit is male and Beamer is female:D |

I started out putting just the bands on Tila as well, I started when I got her, she didn't really mind them. Still even now she thinks it's Christmas when she goes bow or bandless. She loves having them off, but she loves having them on too. For everyday wear she's usually in those little baby scrunchies. |
I just ordered the cutest bows from Ebay too! I also got a great harness vest for her. Can we link ebay stores here? If so I will. She has such cute stuff and the bows were all sewn and very very reasonable. I just kept adding to my purchase. ;) This puppy is spoiled rotten already! :) |
When you're bow training be sure you're not making the top knot or 'pom pom" too tight. I like to use the 3/8 inch size bands. Like Roxy87 uses on Tila I too use the baby scrunchies. I also prefer small bows with rubberbands. Make the topknot first with a plain rubberband then attach the bow afterwards. |
I too, have always had this problem with Jasmine and bows, she just never wanted to keep them in her hair until I received some "snap on" bows from a kind lady on YT (Connie). Jasmine will wear these bows without any problems and I love them. I forgot who makes them, but maybe Connie can tell you or someone else here. These bows are GREAT! |
