New puppy timing? I had been under the assumption that it would be better to bring a new puppy home when the kids are out of school and I could take some vacation to spend time with the new family member getting the puppy acclimated to everyone and the new location. But then I just read on a breeder's website that they feel it is better to bring the puppy home and go right to the regular routine, i.e., work and school (which would be 9 months out of the year). Any thoughts? |
IMO I think it would be better when you have some vacation time, this way it will give you more time to form a bond with your pup and you can be there while he/she gets used to their new home. Once they are settled you can start leaving them alone for short spaces of time so they get used to being alone for once you go back to work. P.S. Welcome to YT. |
IMO it is what ever works best for you. Like children, puppies are very adaptable. Eventually he is going to have to get used to your schedule, but why make him get adjusted to one change, and then change routines and make him get used to that. JMO |
I think it's good if you can take some time off to be with your puppy for at least the first few days he is home. Those first few days can be stressful for you & the puppy. This will allow you to monitor your baby all day until he is settled, adjusting, & eating well. |
Whenever I have gotten a new puppy in the past, I always tried to get him/her on a weekend, so I could spend the first couple days with him, just to get him settled. After that, they adjust so so fast. :animal-pa |
When i got Poppy i got her on a saturday and i took the Monday and Tuesday off work to spend some time with her while she ajusted to her new home and family. If you could get your puppy on a friday night and spend all weeked with her/him to ajust then i would think that would be ok. Welcome to YT :D xxxx |
This makes me angry. (Not mad at any of you) but I was on another thread saying how I'm looking for a yorkie puppy. & I mentioned that I go to college. Then everyone started raising hell saying that I'm not going to have time for a yorkie, how can I manage school & a puppy. Basicly saying that I'm automaticly incapable of taking care of it because I'm in college! Mind you I only have school 3 days a week I'm gone fore 7 hrs Tuesday & Thursday, & on Friday I'm gone for 5. Last time I checked there's 7 days a week. So I still have 4 whole days a week to spend w/ my future furbaby (& I hevent even included holidays yet)! I'm sorry if I sound like a raging psychopath, but everyone had me thinking that if I'm not a "stay at home mommy or daddy" then I'm incapable of loving a yorkie properly & I should just stay alone for the rest of my life! .....ok I'm done venting.....I feel better now. :) |
You do whats best for YOU. I never read too much into whats written online because all it is ....is others OPINIONS. If YOU feel its a good time for you to get a baby...you do whats best for you! and best of luck to you!!! :) Quote:
