PROUD MAMA: Update on Hazel Hazel went down the stairs for the first time ALL by herself yesterday ! ! ! there are about 7 steps, and she paced at first, but then eventually did it! i am so proud of her! i just need her to learn to go out them without my help now :) she is 10 weeks now :p and is gettin SOO big! i can't believe it! i wish she could just stay this size forever :( either way i love her! as i had mentioned in another post, she now INHALES her food. i had dry food out fro her all day yesterday. and she literally picked and nudged at it all day. i felt bad because i felt like she really hadn't eaten all day. so i put down the wet food, and she ate seriously almost all of it! i'm not trying to feed her 2 containers a day of this wet food. shes greedy! LOL. sometimes when i mix the 2 [wet and dry] she'll pick out the dry food and leave it on the floor. other times she eats it all. as far as the potty training, she still consistently poops on her puppy pad. but now she is just peeing everywhere. she used to use the puppy pad on her own, but now she has to be coached to use it. she also started peeing in her crate. :thumbdown i scheduled her an appointment yesterday with the vet for her to have her 2nd shot and her fecal i think. they have her records so they know if its the 2nd or 3rd one. im scared for her! |
Glad to hear Hazel is doing well. :) I mix Poppy's wet food with some dry, at first she wouldn't eat the dry but now I soak it in hot water for around 30-60seconds and then mix it.. she eats it now. Poppy did that with her potty training too.. she was so good on her pads then started to go else where in the house. Just keep at it and she WILL get there in the end. Poppy is 13 weeks now and will go potty in the garden or use her pad at the garden door. We have gone 4 days without an accident! YAY! Good luck with the training :) |

Great news! I too started the dry food by wetting it down. I would add a little bit of water and a squirt of honey - then I would microwave it for a bit. Then I would mix in a few dry kibbles. Slowly, slowly I would put in more dry then wet and now its just plain old dry kibble. As for the potty training - you really are not going to see major results until the puppy is about 4 months. My little one was not fully trained until she was about 8 months old. You have to keep it at and watch her like a hawk. Its all a matter of habit. If she gets into the habit of peeing all over the place - then that is what she remembers and that is what she is going to do. I use treats when they go where they are suppose to and kind of squeel in a high pitch voice - good boy or good girl (I have both). Good luck!! |
You can try to sprinkle a little bit of grated parmesan cheese on her dry kibble. This worked for Lulu. |

annddddd now shes "hoovering" it :) matter of fa t, she just ate it ALL. in like 2 seconds... i think i need to go get her some more! |
I had the same problem with Taycie as she was not interested in dry food and that is primarly what I want to get her to eat... the two things that worked for me was was adding about 1/8 of tsp of baby food chicken flavored..just enough to coat the kibble and get her interested. This was advice from her vet and worked like a charm There is also a product out there made by HALO and its called Dinner Party! Its just a food sprinkle. I would sprinkle this over her dry food and TADA! She would eat. Now I don't really have to do any of this anymore. I do add the food sprinkle when I can tell she wants treats more.. So I like to give her that instead of more treats! Hope this helps:) |

::::edited response:::: i found it on petsmart.com hopefully this link works. you think this stuff is any good? http://http://www.petsmart.com/produ...gfood_testshop |
grrrr my links NEVER work on here :( but its called "Iams Savory Sauce- puppy" and it comes in bacon beef and chicken. |
You can get lots of different types of dog food 'gravy' to put on the dry food to get them interested... also there are some brands of dry food that get a little gravy when you add water. :) |
