Pain medication question???? I've decided to get my furbaby keno neutered. I have called around a few places for prices and some of them don't provide pain medication after the surgery. It is necessary? I don't want my baby to be in pain. |
I'm glad you've decided to get him neutered! It'll make you both so much happier! I don't know the answer to your question, but I wanted to give you some support for your decision! |
IMO, yes it is necessary to have it available. They may give a pain shot post op, but that wears off before the next morning. You may not need to give it, but it's much better to have it and not use then need it and not have it. I ended up giving Rhett his pain meds for 2 days. By day 3, he was fully back to his old self. Are you looking at Spay/Neuter clinics? Most tend to bare bones it. When I checked them out in my area, I found that if I wanted things like pre-op blood work and post op pain meds, I would have to pay extra. By the time I itemized everything out, my normal vet's estimate was right in line with the clinics. |
hmmm..wonder what'sup w/that? I haven't had a male dog neutered, but both my females had buprenex...I'd at least ask if he could have some metacam...it's an anti-inflammatory, and works for pain...I used it one day, when Apple seemed to have strained her back a bit...it did her a treat, and she was fine the next day... |

No I'm taking him to a vet a friend recommended to me, it will be $140.00 for everything but the pain medication which is i believe $27.00 extra. |
I would go ahead and get the prescription, too. Look at it from the other point of view. What if your little guy is in pain during the middle of the night and the only place you can take him to get relief is the ER vet. You'll end up paying significantly more than $27 there to get him comfortable. |
