New Yorkshire Puppy Hi everyone. We just got our new yorkshire puppy (male) yesterday and we have some questions. He seems to like to sleep a lot and doesn't play that much. He is eating some food and drinking some water. So we don't know if he is just exhausted from being held or petted by my two kids or something else is wrong or it's just normal until he gets adjusted to his surrounds. He is 10 weeks old. Thanks! |
Welcome! I'm sure the new people and environment is making him tired. That's a lot for his first days. Once he's settled, he should be running around like he owns the place. :D |
He's still just a baby and will need to sleep and rest a lot in between playtime. |
Just like regular babies they eat, eliminate and sleep a lot!!It's good he's eating and drinking. Usually babies don't leave their momma until 12 weeks. Just make sure he sees the vet and gets his exam, etc. Welcome to the community, enjoy the baby!!:) |
Congrats on your new baby. I can tell you from experience that your life will never be the same. BTW, how much does he weigh? |
Thanks everyone for your comments. He has his Vet appt tomorrow. Oh is weighs in at 2 lbs 1 oz. He is sweet!! I was just worried that something was wrong. |
Since your baby is so young, you need to monitor him for hypoglycemia attacks. Know the signs & know what to do in case of an attack. Your puppy needs lots of rest, so resting frequently doesn't always mean he's hypoglycemic or that something else is wrong. But you should monitor him closely to observe any changes in behavior & to make sure he's eating enough. Enjoy your baby! :aimeeyork |
Hi and welcome to YT. Congratulations on your yorkie pup :) puppies do need to sleep just as much as they play so I wouldnt worry about it. Once he gets used to his new home he will be running all over the place! :D |
Welcome to YT and congrats on your new furbaby:) |
Welcome to YT and congrats http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...w-parents.html Hi there and welcome I've posted an article for new parents that is here in the Library - these are called "stickies" It has lots and lots of information. I'd like to suggest that you provide a "safe" play and sleep area for your pup, where he can snooze and nap, and be able to have some time to himself. It's really great to help with housebreaking, and when you can't supervise the children's interaction with your new pup, you know that everyone is safe. |
Wow...10 weeks is very young. I'm surprised that you were able to get him at this age. Don't worry, he's just too little and needs his rest. In addition to watching his blood sugar as previous post suggests, make sure you watch his body temperature as well. Little ones tend to get cold easily, especially at night. If you can't find clothes his size, use a sock and cut holes for his head, legs and to go potty. Welcome and enjoy your sweet bundle of joy :) |
Congratulations on your new Puppy :D xxx |
