I am new! I am somewhat new to the forum, been a lurker for awhile. I have two babies, Baby Evelyn who is alittle over 3 months, and Moses Joseph who is 7 months. They get along wonderfully together, although Moses makes it clear who wears the pants around here :). They are both wee wee pad trained, and both have unique personalities :). I almost lost Moses a few weeks ago to a poisonous Bufo Toad. We live in the Tampa area of Florida and it was a very frightening experience. I had let him out in our fenced yard before daybreak, and he found the toad and wanted to take a bite out of it, thereby making the toad release it's deadly toxin. For those of you who live in the southern states, it is something definitely to watch out for. Bufo toads love moist places. This one was living under my heat pump. Not sure if I am doing this right, but here are my two babies :). http://www.dogster.com/?213609 http://www.dogster.com/pet_page.php?i=213608&j=t |
Hi Michele!!! Welcome to YT. I am also pretty new. Wow, sure glad that he is okay. I had no idea that those kind of toads existed. I'm going to have to look them up so I know what they look like. If we have them here in our area. I've lived here in the St. Louis area for 10 years. I lived in Florida for 11 years prior to moving here. I love Tarpon Springs. I am Greek so that tells you how I know about Tarpon. Again welcome & your babies are adorable. |
Welcome to YT, you have some beautiful babies there. How adorable. Thank God that you didn't lose that precious baby, that would have been horrible, just glad that things worked out and everything is ok now. Nice job on the pictures too! |
Welcome to YT and thanks for the warning about those toads! How scary....I am glad yours is okay ...they are both adorable btw~~ :D |
Here is an article taken from a local paper that pretty much explains about the Bufo. I had not heard anything about them either. My husband, who had lived in Florida for about 31 years, heard about them, but never actually saw one, so when he saw Moses convulsing and drooling foam, he had a feeling that Moses had an encounter with a Bufo and picked him up and sped (going thru red lights) to an emergency vet not far from here. It was 5 a.m. in the morning. When he arrived, Moses was very rigid and he was panting and his eyes were rolling up in his head. We really thought he wouldn't make it. When it was over, my husband searched the whole yard and eventually found the Bufo and crushed it with a brick. He was so angry....The Toad only comes out when it is dark, and hides when the sun comes up. http://www.sptimes.com/News/080401/N...h_giant_.shtml I am hoping I will learn alot from the forum and also make some good friends :). |
