Bri is gonna be a BIG sister! (To a Human Baby) We just found out this morning that we are expecting #3 and are so excited. We aren't telling anyone until we are further along, but I am dying to tell! HA! Anyways, the reason for my post is I wanted to know if anyone here has experience with yorkies and newborns. We were not expecting this, so it was a complete surprise. Bri does wonderful with my girls (2 and 4) but a baby might be a little different. Any advice?? Thanks! |
Ahhhh Congratulations! That is great news! :congrats::cool88: |

Thanks everyone! We are beyond thrilled for this little surprise! I just hope it is an ok situation for Bri. She's never been around little ones! |

Just wanted to say thanks again before I head to bed! I just pulled out my baby names book! It's never too early to start thinking! HA!! Bri doesn't quite understand yet, but hopefully she'll love her human baby brother or sister!! |
Congratulations!! Don't have any advice, but that is exciting :D |
Many congrats |
congrats!!! How exciting! |
Congrats!!! New babies are so exciting!! |
Yeah!!!! Congrats, sure all the furbabies will adjust :D |
I don't have any experience with yorkies and babies, just wanted to say congratulations. :) |
We had a toy poodle who was about 5 years old when I had my first baby. The biggest thing I will stress is that you have to let the dog sniff around on and get close to the baby right away. Once I let Dax (the poodle) do that, he was quite satisfied with the new addition. Also, be sure to show plenty of attention to the dog - let her sit in your lap while you're holding the baby, etc. That will help a lot with jealousy issues. Congrats!! |
congratulations!!! |

One tip I've heard is to bring home a blanket that the baby has been on/in at the hospital and let the dog sniff around on it and maybe lay on it. Then when you bring this unfamiliar thing home with you, it (the baby) will at least have a "familiar" smell to it that the pup has smelled before. |
Congratulaions, don't worry too much about Bri, she'll adjust quickly. Just don't leave them alone together. The babies crying can be upsetting, but I'm sure Bri will get alone fine. Just don't forget to give her extra attention while the baby sleeps. Make some special time for you and her so she feels loved and she will be fine. You'll have to do this for your other girls as well. Good luck, babies are a great gift. |
Thanks!! I had forgotten the blanket idea! I'll def have to do that. She loves her blankies!! I will def. give her attention, she gets a lot already considering we have 2 other kids!! Thanks everyone for the congratulations!! We are counting down the days until he/she is here!!! |
I agree with the blanket idea. You can also take one of Bri's toys - after it's been washed, of course - to the hospital with you and put it with the baby. That way, she she sees her toy and smells the new scent on it, it'll be like, "Oh, that's my toy. It smells kinda funny but I still love it!" Just make sure it's not something she chews on. I've never had to do this as I have no kids, but that's what one of my friends did with her lab and her new baby. Good luck and congratulations! |
