HOW DO I pee pee pad TRAIN MY YORKIE PUP? I brought home my yorkie girl about 10 days ago, she is going to be 9 weeks old tomarow.I really want her to be pee pee pad traind soon & then im planning on slowly moving the pad near the door then outside. Im stuck on the actual training to go on the pad part. She will only go on the pad if i wipe her pee on it, then SOMETIMES she will pee on it on her own. but usually i have to pick her up in midaction & move her to the pad & thats where she finishes. But she will NEVER EVER poop on the pad i can pick her up in the middle & put her on it but she runs & runs and REFUSES to poop on it. If there is any advice you can give me it is SUPER SUPER GREATLY APPRICIATED!!!!!! Thanks, Maise:) |
My Piper was the same way at first. I took a small expen (literally, it is big enough to put her pee pad tray in) and started putting her in there every hour or two. When she went she go mucho mucho praise!!!! It got to where she would squeeze out a drop just to get praise. The poo situation was the same too. I would pick up her poo and put it on the pad for a while. Eventually she started going pee and poo every morning while in her 'pee pen' LOL!! Now she just gets it. Of course, Piper was 15 weeks when we brought her home so I think she was more ready to learn at that age. I hope your figures it out soon!! |
"Pee Pee Pad Trained Soon" :eyetearss I had to laugh when I read that. Maiseswims, I have had yorkies for around 15 years, and never have they ever been potty trained at 10 weeks. For that matter, 4 months was still a trial and error game. Hell.... at 1.5 years it is still a trial and error system!:p They are stubborn little creatures when it comes to that. The one thing that I have found which really helped in getting the little ones to defecate outside was to keep putting their feces in one spot in the yard. Right after every meal take them outside and tell them to "poop", or "potty". Also, as soon as I would get up in the morning I would put them on the pad and keep them there for about 2 minutes saying the potty word. I wish you the best of luck, for as cute as these little ones are, they are equally as stubborn. |
with a lot of patience and persistence and don't expect immediate results, it's a baby |
With one that little I think an xpen is a must. They can't have full run of the house until they learn. |
It definitely takes time. You have to be watching her at all times when she is out. When she goes on the pads, of course lots and lots of praise. Treats are good too (at least they worked for me). Reprimand her when you catch her doing it where she is not suppose to. Never punish her if you find it but don't see her doing it - and never never hit. Yorkies really do have to be at least 4 months old before you can begin to see any results. My little Coco was fully pee pad trained by the time she was 8 months old. I am now working with our new little boy. He is 7 months old and I think it will take a lot longer for him. He too will not poop in front of me. So it has been a little more difficult - but I think he will eventually get it. We will see. You have to be consistent because once they get familiar with pooping all over - then that is what they are remembering. Good luck to you - and for that matter - to me too - LOL! |
Thanks everyone for the tips!, ill check out the xpen & thnks for all ythe good luck :) |
