Our New Addition 1 Attachment(s) Hi All! I'm new to the forum and new to being a Yorkie owner. My wife and daughter have been after me for a while to get a puppy. Well, we did it last weekend. Harlie is 9 weeks old with a great personality. She is so smart and is learning so fast. She has already stolen our hearts with that cute little face :). Her ears are up in this photo but after a couple days, her left got a little floppy. I hope there's nothing wrong with it. Don |
Hello and welcome to YT! Congrats on your adorable baby! Their ears can go up and down, especially when they start teething. I'm sure hers will be standing again, since they were before. She's so cute! |
Welcome and congrats on your new baby. You are going to have so much fun with her. She is adorable! |
Hi Connie, thanks for the greetings! We have a lot to learn about Yorkies and this looks like a great forum. I'll be reading all I can to make sure we do right things. I clipped her nails last night but didn't take too much off, I'm afraid I'll get to the quick. The nails are so black, I can't see it. Any suggestions would be appreciated very much. Don |
Welcome to YT Don and family! Your little baby is adorable, what a face! The nail clipping can be tricky when they have all black nails (what they should have actually.) A rule of thumb is not to get further then 1/4th to 3/8th of the nail from the top. To play it safe cut them every week a little bit, that way she gets used to it too... The ears will stand up eventually for good once she is done with the teething. To help and make sure keep the top third of the ear shaved so the hair won't weigh them down. We all wish you and your family a lot of fun with your new puppy! |
Hi BY, Thanks, she's a pistol, no doubt. We looked forever to find her and had 2 puppies to decide on, they were 9 miles apart. We drove back and forth, tormenting the owners, until we finally decided on her...it was so hard to make the decision. Don |
she has that "I really want a big cuddle" look on her sweet little face |
Welcome to YT you will find a lot of good info here. Harley is a doll :) |

Thanks for the info! I'll di exactly that, clip a bit every week. How do you shave a dog's ear? Sorry but this is our first real puppy and I would be mortified if I cut her. Teegy, You are right! She loves to be held. They're just like babies, they play and eat and poop and sleep. When her batteries are drained, she just looks at you and you know it's nap time :). Don |
Hi and welcome to YT. She sure is a cutey :D Teething can effect the ears so I wouldnt worry too much about it, they will stand again eventually. |
Welcome and congratulations. She is adorable. As far as her ears, they look like they will stand all the time as she gets done with teething and a little older. As for trimming her ear tips, I use a little mini trimmer and just zip the hair off the tips of mines ears. She doesn't look like she has a lot right now so you could wait a few weeks and have a groomer show you. |
Welcome to YT!! Harlie is just precious! As far as nail cutting is concerned like Mitzi's Mom said just do a little every week so she gets used to it. When I got Bentley I wanted to do his ears myself and bought an Andis cordless trimmer...it is narrow in width and got him used to it. Just the third top of the ear in sort of an upside down "V" is what I do on both sides of his ears. If you go to a groomer they can tell you how to do it if you want or just have them do it once a month. Harlie is really a cute girl and I know you will be in love with her if you aren't already!! LOL!! |
Very cute. |
Thanks to all of you, you are all super people for sharing your experience with me, I will take it all to heart. I'm a DIY guy and my daughter cuts hair . There's no telling, she may come up with a new Yorkie "style" :D. She has gone out and bought the full Paul Mitchell line of doggie hair care products. I have to say that the Yorkies in all of your avatars are soooo cute. Of all the breeds of small dogs, the Yorkie, barr none, is the most adorable with the features that we wanted. Our friends and family just can't put her down. My niece is crying for a puppy after she saw Harlie and she's 14 years old :). I'm allergic to most animals and HATE shedded fur and dander. Harlie doesn't even smell like a dog and have seen no hair anywhere. I'm very happy. Don |
Wow aint Harlie a little cutie hehe!! That face is just soooooooo gorgeous!! Congratulations on your new little fur baby! I have had my Poppy over a week now she is 6 weeks old. Would you let me know what the paul mitchel Pet products are like i was thinking about getting them for Poppy. Thank you :D |
