Need AIRLINE TRAVEL advice!! What carrier should I get? Does anyone know what the best airline approved carry on pet carrier is the best? Or any recommendations? I have a female, 8 lb. yorkie that I want to take on a trip as a carry on. Does anyone know if the 'Juicy Couture' bags are airline approved and are they big enough? Any adivce is greatly appreciated! Thank you, ginger cody, wyoming |
What airline are you traveling on? I traveled Southwest with Cooper and was very pleased with my Sherpa carrier. Cooper is 9 pounds and fit fine inside. Sherpas Pet Trading Company Products | Ultimate Pet Carrier I'm a huge fan of this blog. It has everything you ever need to know about airline travel Dog Jaunt : Taking your dog on a plane : Traveling with a small dog |
I bought the Sherpa, too, for a planned trip that ended up not happening. It's really well constructed and I like the hard bottom with the removable/washable cover. It's one of the only bags that Rhett actually settled down and seemed comfortable in. |
2 Attachment(s) I know a lot of people really like the Sherpa bags. My girls were already used to their other carriers, so I haven't tried them out yet, but I've heard good things. To answer your question, most Juicy carriers are airline approved. Your girl wouldn't fit in the smaller Juicy carriers (kind of bowling bag shaped), but I'll bet she would fit in the longer rectangular ones. We have one of those and my 9 lb girl fits in there comfortably. I attached a picture of the one we have, but it doesn't show it very well. My 11 lb girl does too, but it seems just a little too tight for my preference. I really like the Petflys carriers for traveling: Welcome To Pet Fly's - Trendy, Edgy, Airline approved pet carriers for traveling in style, comfort and safety on board a plane, train, automobile or just hanging out with you. I've also traveled using a Coach carrier (I think they stopped making them), but Rory is a genius and figured out how to unzip the top (a double zip with velcro), which made take-off and landing super fun with her trying to poke her little head out of the top to see what was going on. My advice is to make sure it zips and snaps in place on the side rather than top. ETA: Found a picture of Lane in the Coach carrier, and you can kind of see how the top closes. |
4 Attachment(s) I have two large Kwigy Bo Alex bags and both my 7 lber and 3 lber fit in there for short trips. Here are some pictures of my two. The first three are of Couver (7 lbs) and the final pic is of both of them. |
Thank you!! Thank you ALL for all the great info!!! :) |
For Pickles I use the mini Sleepy Pod and a Juicy Couture carrier for air travel. Loviing the sleepy pod the best. I am going to get the normal size sleepy pod for my bigger girls. I am 99.999999999% it will fit under the seats on Southwest. |
Airline approved pet carriers I brought Patti on Southwest Airlines from San Antonio Texas. I used a snoozer pet carrier that is airline approved that fit under the seat. She was very comfortable in the carrier. They have wheels on them I liked it for her. They also double as a back pact and a car seat. Their web site is www.snoozerpetproducts.com Linda, Sassy and Patti. |
I flew Patti home from San Antonio Texas. I bought her a Snoozer bag with the wheels on it for easily getting her thru the airports and she was very comfortalbe. It also doubles as a back pack style carrier and a car seat. you can take a look at them at snoozer pet products. Linda, Sassy and Patti |
I'm a flight attendant and my advice is to make sure whatever bag you get make sure it can kind of squish down if need be!! Don't get a hard carrier or a carrier with rigid type sides because all the different planes have different size areas under the seats. Even on one aircraft, if you sit at the window it will have a different size area than the aisle seat. If if is a little squishy it will fit under more aircrafts seats. |
This snoozer bag the wheels are removable and fits under the aisle seat nicely I highly recommend it. I flew her home on southwest you can call the airline to get the dementions required. that is what I did before you buy one. It also has pockets that you can stick thing in for your baby that you will be needing for your baby during the flight. Linda, Sassy and Patti |
