Lucy is depressed? We just moved into our new home yesterday in our new state. Lucy seems so depressed and listless today. Of course, it is super hot too. Our yard is not fenced (yet) so she and Ringo cannot run in and out like they used to. Our neighbors are really nice but have two big dogs that are fenced with the underground fence. They stay in their yard but our first night here - they had company and the visiting big dog ran over into our yard and made a beeline for Lucy. I reached down to pick her up but she was trying to run away . . . anyway, I picked her up and she was fine. But now she is terrified to go out in the yard. Mine are on a leash at all times (not used to that either as we had 1/2 acre fenced yard at our old house). She is just laying around; doesn't want to play with her toys inside the house or go out on the leash with me and Ringo. It's too hot to walk; maybe after dark we will explore our neighborhood a little bit. Suggestions? Or will it just take some time? I will be getting a fence up as fast as I can! I guess I've been a little stressed myself and it probably shows. |
It will take time to adapt to the new surroundings. The heat is also a factor, and she also takes her cues from you. Give it time. Have you comsidered a fence? |

Thanks; it probably will take some time and maybe I need to lighten up too. It's just me and my son and everything seems a bit overwhelming to me. Friends are on the way to help us unpack so . . maybe we could all use a little distraction. |

Not too sure how familiar you are in your new neighbourhood, but I'd try to go after first light in the morning to explore you will be able to see more. It should be fairly cool then, and on a Sat you might get to meet some neighbours, and also see your surroundings better. I was only in West Virginia once but it was just gorgeous. |
Congrats on your new home the babies will be fine i'm sure, unless they are like me i do not like changes in my life and it takes a while for me to get over them :) |
Just try and take some breaks and just sit and relax with the babies, might help to reassure them that they are still a priority. I know I would be confused and depressed too if I was in a new place and all my stuff (and stuff I'm used to seeing around) was in boxes. And give her time... it's alot for a little dog to move... she could be feeling off just from the trip. We have a small yard that mine run around in, but they would never give up their walks (always and entirely on leash). Especially if we take a different route every now and then. Definitely walk when it's light enough out for you to see... you never know what you may run into in a strange place. I've been here for 20 years and still see scary stuff too often if you ask me! Congratulations on the move.....hope you all get settled in quickly! :D Another thing would be if you are at the same sea-level as you were before... a difference could take time to get used to... |
