Uncertain about spay.... I was trying to make an appointment for a spay for weeks with the local human society...the receptionist finally contacted me and left me a rude message. She said " Hi this is So&So and Im returning your 6th call, we dont appreciate you leaving more than one message you need to understand we have 100's of dogs we fix and we can't contact you right away." and then she left the # again and hung up. I was so turned off by her attitude, is that a reflection of how they're going to treat my Kelsey? I dont think so! So I think I'm going to stick with my vet. They are charging $171.75 for everything, bloodwork, surgery, meds, check-up....and I feel safe and trust them completely. They will need to have her stay overnight, this is normal right? Do you all think I made a right choice? |
i definetly think you made the right choice... it seems they have too many pets that they can handle.... |
Don't do anything you are uncomfortable with - trust your instincts. I pay a little more for my vet, I know that they are more expensive than other vets in town, but I trust them completely. In my opinion, it's worth paying a little extra for peace of mind. Especially when it comes to our babies...Good luck! |
Definitely! If someone is willing to be nasty to a person who can get nasty right back as well as report the person to their manager, imagine what they might do to an animal who cannot speak up for themselves. We would all love to think that people who are in animal related career feilds truly love the animals they work with, but the truth of the matter is that some of them don't. Even if you pay a little more, at least you know your baby is well taken care of! |
Porscha is at my vet today being spayed, I was worried about her but I called and they said she was doing ok. She had to have baby teeth pulled too so I know she will be sore. They are only keeping her for the day i get to go get her in about an hour. |
Oh no!! No if you are nasty to me you will more than likely be mean to my pet also. I would also call the superivior of that humane society and let them here the message so they know what type of person they have working for them. I can only imagine how she treats people calling to find their lost pet. One time I thought my baby was list and I called the SPCA, the shelter, and the local pound every half hour. |

I didn't want to exclude other replier's....I appreciate all of your advice and concern. I think I'm making the right choice, I feel confident and secure knowing that they will take good care of my baby. :D Her appointment is scheduled for November 22nd. |
I hate it when people are like that. Maybe she had a bad day and for that I'm sorry, but it's no excuse. I have done that before, but I felt so bad that I called them back and apologized. I felt horrible. I'm glad you decided to go to your regular vet. You'll feel so much better with less stress from worrying. I agree, I think I would call and ask for the supervisor or perhaps, better yet, write a letter to someone in charge regarding the type of treatment you received. That woman needed to have better manners and explain the process to you instead of leaving the message that she did. No excuse. |
I hate when people act like that. Do what you feel is right. |
I agree with everyone go to your vet! Better to be safe than sorry. My Cali is 18 weeks and 2.5lbs at what age do you think she should be spayed? The vet said 6 months but I'm afraid since she is so small. I was thinking of waiting until she was 9 months old? |
Yes, you made the right choice. I could find myself a cheaper vet but I still went to my trusted vet even if I paid 450.00 for my baby's spaying 1 month ago. And that attitude was not acceptable at all. It has to be reported |

That said I think it is everyone's personal decision but I would defintiely wait as long as you can until she is bigger and I would ake sure the vet has an assistant or, preferably another vet there to monitor the anesthesia and the vitals while he does the surgery. Some save costs by trying to d it all themselves and it is just not safe. I would tour the operatory and make sure they have state of the art equipment and they know about the anesthesia needs of small breeds. Good luck with your decision and I hope her recovery is quick and uneventful. |

If I were you, I would make that 7th call to the humane society!! I would identify myself, announce this as my 7th and final call and briefly let them know that they would not have to look forward to seeing my baby!!! But, that's just me! ;) |
