Is it okay to call your rehomed yorkies former vet?
 
When I got 2 year old Jesse from his previous owner I received his vet record stating the basics, the vaccines he has had, neutering, microchip, but I am just wondering if you can call and talk to the former vet? Do you need permission from the former owner, I would imagine so:confused: Thanks.

I would say yes. It is in the pups best interest. IMO

I would thinkk they would talk to you. Try it if not get your vet to get there record.

I would call and explain the situation to them. If they tell you that you need the former owners permission, then call her first. If it's just records you want, your vet should be able to request them without a problem.

I think it would be okay.
Call the vet and explain that you are his new owner.. they should still have his records. :)

That is another owner's personal information (what they did and did not do for their dog), so I doubt that they would give it out and they really should not. The old owner could tell them to release the information to you.

Even if it was requested from my vet? I will ask his former owner for premission then, if it's really needed.

I don't think you need permission from the previous owners. It's not like you're calling to talk to the VET regarding THEM, you're calling about YOUR furbaby.

When we adopted Dany, the humane society called our vet just to make sure we gave our current furbabies their vaccines. Our vet called me on my cell phone while having the humane society on hold to make sure it was okay. I don't think the vet will just hand over the previous owner's records, but the owner should be able to get it for you.

Yes you do when I adopted my Lil One the vet wouldnt release anything even to my vet with out former owners permission very frustrating and costly had to redo everything except rabies as she did have her tags. The orig. vet thought I had stole her. Like I would call them if I had!!!
But get what you can in writting from former owner.

This (imo) is how it should be done. It is a personal, medical file.

You could try it, but I wouldn't be surprised if the vet staff says no. It wouldn't be fair to the previous owner. It should (theoretically) be confidential.

I am sure you have already done this, but just in case, did you have the microchip info changed to your info?

Well I contacted Jesse's former owner and she called her vet and gave them permission to release all files. So I am happy:)
