What Do Owners do With Show Dogs After They No Longer Show Them? I have been curious about what happens with the dogs and what age they normally are when they are no longer being shown. I started thinking about it because I live close to a greyhound track and the greyhound adoption program in this area always has plenty of dogs. I am not interested in breeding or showing at all, but was just curious.... |
Mine usually finished showing and are champions when they are 2 years old - sometime by three. Some people - they need more time after 2 to finish or do not start showing till they are 3. It really depends. For my dogs - they are finished while they are 2 years of age. After they are finished - you love them still. For me, they are my pets and would be hard for me to part with them. Some may Special their champions and go for their Grand Championships here in US. There are some that will place them in pet homes when they are 5 years old or after. But like I said that would be hard for me, since they are my pets. |
I would think that they just keep them at home as pets because they are part of the family. :) |
I'm sure that they are mostly kept as the treasured pets they are:love: Some are bred, of course, and others maybe rehomed if the owner has too many dogs. It must be hard to let any of them go, though:( Great question, I am curious to see the answers that will come from some of the experienced exhibitor members;) |
Thanks for the info. Heading out for vacation a couple of weeks and will check the thread for more when I return. |
