A Crazier Miloh After His Neuter Hey YT Members, As a few of you may know, Miloh, my 9 month-old boy recently got neutered, microchipped and had 4 baby teeth removed this past Friday. On his first day back home I began to notice he was extremely sad, probably because the vet didn't give him pain meds. :( The Kiss E Cone Collar has prevented him from tampering with his stitches (thanks Mom to Hot Rod). It's only been 4 days since his neuter & Miloh is up and running. For the first few days he stayed inside his crate but than I slowly began to give him some freedom. I am wondering if I should let him run around or keep him crated. I don't want him to hurt himself, however, I feel terrible for depriving him of having fun. A couple of minutes ago, Miloh approached me as he is next to me on my bed, he began to hump my arm and once I said no, he moved onto the pillow next to me. Is this normal? :confused: Anyway, just wanted to give you all an update. Sorry this is too long. Thanks in advance! |
I don't know if it's "normal," I just wanted to point out that any hormones Miloh had in him don't disappear right after the neuter. They slowly flush out of his system. If it's a behavior you don't want to encourage, just tell him no and change his focus onto something else. Do you have any chews to help keep him busy? Any toys he can sit and chew/playwith? As long as he has no access to stairs and high furniture that he might want to climb, a little bit of freedom probably won't hurt him. If you're not comfortable, keep him confined. |
Four days post neuter it should be ok for him to have some freedom. I too would be worried if he tried to jump or got to crazy running around. The humping I can not help with, but I agree with the above post, correct, and redirect the unwanted behavior. |
I gave up trying to restrain Rhett about day 3. Confining him was making him too anxious- he was trying to crawl up the sides of the crate. He was getting friendly with his bed, too- I think mostly just from stress. Letting him out helped him calm down immensely. I would let him out and just keep an eye on him. Try (operative word is try) to not let him jump on/off of furniture or go up and down stairs. I'm floored the vet didn't send pain meds home. Poor baby. |
Glad to hear Miloh is doing well! Rocco got neutered Friday as well, and my vet said he did not need to be crated. He told me just to be sure that he didn't jump or climb up stairs, and not to lay down for the fist few days outside (germs). Actually, he encouraged walking on a short leash so he could expend some energy and also keep the stitched area flexible. He's been just fine since and running around but not jumping. |
I had my oldest neutered a year ago and he still humps so I can't help you with that but just like Miloh he was up and playing a few day after surgery I kept a close eye on him so that he wouldn't do anything stupid and he was fine I think he new his limits..... |
