Just a warning! I took my 6 mo. old to the vet for baby teeth removal. As I was checking in, another client reached and petted her face. I turned away and asked that they please not pet her as she was just in for teeth and not sick. Of course, I got the "what a B....! look". I said I was sorry, but usually dogs that come to the vet are sick and my puppy isn't. Their dog was COUGHING! My puppy went in for surgery and her Bordatella, but alas it was too late!...now everyone here at home that wasn't vaccinated (all the young ones), have kennel cough! I'm just saying.....don't let people pet your dogs at the vet......I never do, but was blind sided. The one time I didn't use a crate, I got punished. I know that's where it came from, as I spoke to the vet about it and the dog did have kennel cough....the vet quarantined it as soon as they checked in, but too late for me. Just wanted to share so that everyone knows the possibilities that can take place. Next time I'll wait outside until they call me. |
Very good advice The other thing is I always get the first apt of the day, If I have emergency and need to go latter I leave my dog in the car and check in and tell them to come get me when they are ready. I have the worlds Best Vet Sparklingbluyorkies.com |
Another thing that I try to do is not let my dogs go all over the floor. I know that when they have an accident from another dog, they are good about cleaning up and sanitizing but I just don't want to take any chances. Luckily they are small enough for me to carry. |
I never let them down and always use a crate......the one time I didn't, I'm paying the price.......well the kids are anyway! |
PS....I was the first appt.....they came in right behind me and instead of waiting back, took the liberty of reaching and petting!!!!!!!! My bad!!!!!! |
Aw how terrible, thank you for the great advice i have a creat for poppy to go the vets in xxx |
Sorry this happened to you, thanks for the heads up for people who don't think of this. It is awfully rude to pet someones furbaby without permission anyway. :( I would have been peeved too and wouldn't care what they say to me. Mine also never touch the floor when they are at the vet. Straight from the crate or my arms to the room and I wipe off the table and little scale before they get on, lol. They've come to expect that of me :) |
good post and great advice. kinda like people coming out of the hospital with an infection ... LOL |
Crates are great Yes for teenies I love the crates for my big dogs I request first appt of the day. Or last for that matter. My large dogs have to go in under their own steam, my vet has cats on windosills or reception desk, one dog couldn't care less the other dog, thinks Oh lunch! Dealing with the cats, and one dog is enough, not wanting to meet other dogs in the anteroom, which is the size of a postage stamp. |
So sorry that happened!!! But, I am really glad you posted this because it helps warn others. |

Thank you for the advice Wow, thanks for this advice. This is one of those things you don't think about, but this world we live in, with germs flying around all over the place (animal AND human), it makes perfect sense. You can't be too careful. I will remember this one as I always carry mine in my arms for vet visits. |
I use my stroller. That way folks can see my Biewers but no touching. |
Amazing that people would be that inconciderate and thoughtless, touching your baby when they know full well theirs is ill  |
Thanks for the warning, I never let them touch the floor and I bring a blanket for the examining tables but I never even thought about the people's hands!! Thanks! |
