They said that yorkies are very delicate and fragile, my question is did you attend any trainings before having a yorkie? How was it?

I don't know if there are any training classes to attend before owning a yorkie. But you can read as many books as you can beforehand. There's lots of info in them that will get you started...and also helpful info here from YT owners.

I hope to take Poppy to training classes when she is older. I think it would be fun for her and me :D xxx

I have never heard of training classes before you get the puppy either but like another member said there are lots of books you can get :)
Most puppy training classes are for when you actually have the puppy.

I'm actually in the process of training my puppy. She's very good at urinating on her wee wee pad but when it comes to making a bowel movement she prefers the floor. Do u guys have any tips for this?

Agree with everyone about reading books and looking at articles on the internet. I also read that because of their size and their fragile bones, they should be crated, penned or in a safe zone when you're not home or too busy to keep an eye where they are. I crate Piper and Rio my sheltie (he gets sick when we are not home, and has anxieties - yes, for real!). I can see piper getting hurt or into innocent trouble chasing cats and falling down two flights downstairs chasing the cats so it's really important to keep them safe and contained when you can't be with them. As for potty training, when I brought Piper to the vet after we got her the nurse told me to be persistant - which makes sense with their personalities- and take them out every 1/2 hr in the beginning, and after they eat, play, you get the drift. I ended up keeping her on a leash with me walking around the house and would say key words about doing her business outside. She was catching on at about 8 months, but being the breed she is she made up her mind to be consistant about 18 months. they catch on with your persistance and their own terms. Our vet said all little dogs are notorious about potty training. You can also call a vet and ask to talk to someone about the breed. They are worth the effort - so sweet and funny, and playful. Time and dedication pays off. Good luck with your decision

No, I did not. Although it would have probably helped prevent me from making a lot of mistakes. Good for you for even considering! There are tons of dog training books out there, and some pretty good TV Shows (The Dog Whisperer and It's Me or the Dog) that can actually provided excellent foundations for training.

When I adopted Vinnie, he was a slight behavioral mess, and I added insult to injury by not always being the best "pack leader." Thanks to a couple of good classes and some well-meaning friends, I was able to get a handle on his behavioral issues and he is a pretty decent dog (most of the time).

Some Yorkies are small and you do have to consider that with everything you do. That said, they are still dogs and many of them have quite a bit of heart (I've witnessed pit bulls cower in the presence of my little guys). It is definitely important to use good dog training techniques early on so that they can grow into confident and happy members of your family.
