We brought Wrigley home at 12 1/2 weeks and also avoided the problems that you see over and over on YT from people who brought their puppies home too early! A good, reputable breeder should NOT have a problem doing this, since they should know the advantages of the puppy having this time with litter mates and Mom! |
Congratulations! I love the name, it will always remind you of when you first met :) Oh and welcome to YT! |

She taught him to lay down when he got to crazy (he's a little tazmanian devil in a Yorkie body), how not to bite, and how to properly approach the other puppies (all of the breeders dogs happen to have puppies at the same time). Now Harley respects every dog, and when he approaches a new dog, or even his friends, he lays on the ground immediately, lets the other dogs do thier thing, and then he approaches. It can be a very valuable part of socialization. |
You should wait But we all know you won't........ instead you'll be posting on here in a couple of weeks that your new baby is having all types of both emotional and physical issues..... and you will spend more money on vet fees than you can afford.......etc.............. |
That is the time puppy manners are taught. Yes she may be fine but I agree could miss out on a good education that will make her a much better baby for you. I know hard to wait but always well worth it! |

I took Harley at 9 weeks, like I said above and he was fine... My breeder did include this play time with mom and siblings long before he went home... you could always call your breeder and ask if this has been done. Also AS SOON as vaccines are done, SOCIALIZE SOCIALIZE SOCIALIZE! it will make the world of difference. Do you know any of the owners of littermates? Are they going close by... you can always ask your breeder if anyone is interested in having a puppy play group weekly or more often. These are ways that you can make up for that time spent with momma and siblings. This is the worst part about forums, sometimes people just voice thier opinion a little too much. Chances are you wont leave your baby there any longer, which is YOUR decision, not ours. I think I can speak for friendly YTers that we are just letting you know all kinds of tips to make this puppy phase as fun as it should be and less stressful! Good luck. and don't get discouraged I'm sure Stormy will be a great little pup. |
I won't comment on the age thing because we got Tatum when she was about 9, almost 10 weeks and she did just excellent. Lots of socializing after all vaccs are done is a great idea. Did want to say though that we have an Australian Shepherd named Stormie. Her name came from her coloring though. She's a blue merle and her colors are like pretty storm clouds. Congrats! |
