2 Female dogs I have a sweet, 2 year old, female golden retriever and I want to get a female yorkie puppy. My husband is concerned that they won't get along because they are both girls. Does anyone have experience with 2 female dogs? |
I had two female Yorkies for a long time. They got on great. |
I have 2 females but they are full sisters from the same litter so it might be different. My girls are very tightly bonded to each other and they look out for each other...they're like a little tag team when it comes to playtime! Neither of my girls have an alpha personality so things here are fine...they are almost 3 and were both spayed at about 2 1/2. I don't know if it would be the same with 2 unrelated females. |
I have five adult females, one female foster puppy and one male. All get along great. Only one of the females is a yorkie. |

I have two female dogs that will both be 2 in October. One is a yorkie and one is a bull terrier. Neither of them have been spayed although I will be spaying my female yorkie soon. They get along great! I think most of the reason they do get along so well is because they are the same age. My bull terrier was here first and she has let Lola take charge in the house. We have a male yorkie as well who is neutered and Lola is in charge of the house! My bull terrier has never as much as growled at Lola for any reason, Lola however does act bossy towards my bull terrier at times. I think it's all in how you introduce them and raise them. My mom has two females as well, one a yorkie and one a boxer. The boxer is a spayed senior. They also get along wonderfully but of course with an older dog she does get a tad bit grumpy sometimes and doesn't like all the jumping around, but for 95% of the time they get along like best friends! |
2 Attachment(s) I have two females. Ally (DOB: 12/31/08) and Tia (DOB: 1/23/10). They are best friends, although Tia does get on Ally's nerves once in a while. Tia is very hyper and doesn't like to share. I told her today that she needs to get lessons on how to share! lol I do have a 12.5 year old female pek too, but I don't let the yorkies play around her She is not well and we don't think she will live much longer. This is why we adopted Tia earlier this year (so Ally wouldn't be lonely). |
We have a 9 year old wheaten terrier. Lucy is the sweetest 35 lb.dust mop- Then along came Ziva... she is now 1 1/2. I kept Ziva in her own space while training , introduced her slowly, Lucy used to turn the swivel recliner to look into the dining room to watch the puppy. Now she ignores her and tries to sleep in her little bed.Ziva marked everything of Lucy's! Starting at 1 year we had some issues over food (Lucy stealing and Ziva finally figuring it out) Ziva can be bossy with Lucy. We have some problems answering the door and it can turn into a fight if we don't follow the right procedure, also bully sticks are no longer an option, the fights are too uneven! |
I have a 5 year old shih tzu and a 12 week old yorkie. They get along fine, but the shih tzu corrects Kelsey the yorkie. They do get along well though. |
Not so much gender I would be more concerned abouth the weight differences than the gender issue. Even if your orig-a-pup (original pup) :p was gentle the size alone could cause the Yorkie to be injured. I am looking for an adult Yorkie companion for my 3.6 lbs Yorkie who is going to be a year old next month, and I was told to only get a dog no larger than 5 lbs to be on the safe side by our vet. Guess they see unintentional injuries when there is too much weight disparity. |
My neighbor's 8 lb+ yorkie is too big to play with Ally, who is 3 lb 2 oz. Although they have been playing together since they were both babies, my neighbor's yorkie now plays too hard and really hurts her. She sits on her and smashes her. Ally can't even move. They don't play together any more. We adopted Tia, hoping that she would be Ally's size so she would have a playmate. |
I have three unaltered females and no problems whatsoever with them. |
I had one girl, Apple, and got a boy for her to play with, Buzz, because I thought it would be the best match...However, I just decided to keep a little mixed female yorkie rescue, that I was fostering, temporarily, and my two girls, actually, play more together than Apple & Buzz...Buzz prefers to chill out, chewing his bully sticks, while the wild girls get their play on lol...So, iatyq, I think two girls will do fine... |
I have 3 females and they all get along great! |
I have a 5 year old female rescue yorkie, who has been with me for 3 years, and have just adopted a 6 year old female ex-breeding puppy mill girl who has been with me for 12 weeks. Neither seems to want to be dominant, and they get along well. Not best buddies yet, its early days, but they seem happy together, and do sometimes snuggle up to sleep. |
