I need your help! What brand do you use for trimming and clipping?
 

Peanut is becoming like a tiny cub. His wavy hair is like 2 inches long all over him. We live in Austin, TX and the temperature is around 100 degree every day. I called around to look for profesional grooming and they cost around $40 to $50!! Peanut is only 3 pounds. I do not want to spend money on silly professional grooming and wanting to learn how to groom on my dog myself.

Wahl is popular for clippers but personally I HATE them. for 13 years I've worked with horses that have a far coarser hair than our babies, but we used Oster... They have a great reputation, and I find thier engines last longer. I broke down and bought Wahl for Harley, but I only use the small clipper for his bum... if I were doing a full puppy cut, I'd buy a good pair of Oster shavers... the blades are interchangeable so you can get different sizes, also they will last ALOT longer. I've gone through many pairs of $20 clippers, and my mother bought a $100 pair and they haven't died in the past 5 years.

If you go with Oster shop around... you may think the pet shop or walmart is the place to go, but also price tack shops for horses (they sell all size blades too, so you can get exactly what's right for your baby). I know the department style tack shop for horses is much cheaper for the same pair of clippers you find at the pet store (mind you I'm in Canada).

If you're going to learn how to do the grooming yourself, which if you have patience I recommend, look up clips all over the place, research and practice. I do not recommend doing the full clip on the first try. I've never clipped a dog, but when I was first shaving a horses leg, it would take me 3 tries before every show to get each leg perfect. I usually spent 45 minutes a leg... So start slow... take a little at a time, let it sit for a day, then clip some more, that way you get an even cut...

Sorry for all the horse analogies, but I did horse grooming for years, just switched to dogs this year... grooming can be really fun, but it takes a load of practice...
