teacup size I have 2 yorkies one is 4 lbs and the other 5 lbs. Are they considered teacup size? The breeder advertised them as teacups. I am very happy with their size 5 lbs is a comfortable size for me. Just curious |

Theres no such thing as a teacup yorkie. That's just something bad breeders say to charge more money. I have two yorkies, 4.5 lbs and 5 lbs. I do not call them Teacup and often get people who ask if they are, I tell them the truth about the word. |
There is no such thing as "teacup yorkies." See Yorkie Size Myths |
There is no official teacup size, we took a poll here once, and it seems like so many people have different answers, some under 4 pounds some under 3. The word "teacup" is not in the yorkie standard; the yorkie is a "toy" and some people use the word "toy" and "teacup" interchangeably. Most toy breeds are 7 pounds and below so some people think teacup is a dog under 7 pounds. Most advice you'll read, says stay away from breeders advertising "teacups", because there is no true definition, and it's just a marketing ploy. The YTCA, which is the mother club for the Yorkie, forbids breeders to use the word in any advertising. However, pet owners can use any word they want to describe their babies. |
Welcome to YT I hope you enjoy this site.:D:D:) Now let me tell you that their is no such thing as a teacup dog. That is just a thing breeders say to sell for more money as you will learn after you have been hear for awhile. Enjoy your babies and sit back and read this site you will learn all that their is about owning a yorkie or better, how a yorkie owns you. |
size What is the usual weight for a yorkie. And maybe what I purchased was the runt of the litter. |
I think 4-7 lbs is the norm. Some are bigger some smaller |
That makes me feel better that are are in the normal size range. I personally think they are the perfect size. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a 2-3 lb dog |
