My pup and my older dog. I have an older cross breed dog called Jess, she is about 13 years old and we have had her for 10 years. My yorkie pup has been with us for 6 weeks now and at first Jess wasnt happy about it AT ALL. Jess wouldnt even sit in the same room as the pup at first and was in the huff with us all :( Slowly things started to get better and she would start to sit in the same room as her, then she would let the pup sit closer to her and so on. But as soon as Poppy got too close Jess would either bark or walk away form her (or both). Now Poppy is a little bigger she is starting to run around and play more. Jess now tolerates her playing in the room that she is in and being in the garden when she is there. Last night Poppy was running around the living room playing and Jess was barking at her A LOT.. I mean right in her face, but Poppy wasnt scared as she kept wagging her tail and coming back to her. When Jess barks at her her tail is wagging and she sort of gets down on the floor with her butt in the air like shes playing. She has never actually gone for the pup, she will just bark in her face. Do you think this is progress? Is Jess just showing Poppy whos boss? They are never left alone together btw. Thanks :aimeeyork EDIT: all the time Jess is barking her tail is wagging |
sounds like progress to me! :) My beagle, Jake, barks while playing too! |
Thank god! I really want them to be friends so hopefully its progress :) |
sounds that way, dogs get into the butt in air stance when inviting another dog or animal to play with them :) this is one or Rizzo's fav stances. |
Yep, butt in the air usually means, Let's Play! Sounds like progress. |
Sounds to me like progress.Given time they should become best friends. |
Aw I really hope so :D Thanks everyone! |
My Yorkie plays like Jess :) The whole time he plays with another dog, he growls, growls, growls and barks. It sounds kind of awful until you realize his little tail is wagging and he is having an awesome time. It's sometimes hard to convince other dog owners that he isn't scared or mean, it's just how he plays! |
It sounds like progress to me! :D I'll bet soon they are going to be nearly inseparable, and you'll only have to watch to make sure Jess doesn't get too playful. |
Thanks everyone :) |
They say that puppies are good for older dogs. I suppose it brings them back to life!:D |
I hope so thank you :) |
Sounds to me like Jess is starting to warm up to the idea of playing with Poppy:) That's great:D!!!! Maybe now that she's getting bigger, Jess isn't afraid of hurting her as much? |
Thanks LunasMomma, I think your right because when Poppy was smaller Jess used to back away from her... But now she stands her ground :) |
