My boy is so playful and affectionate. My girl is a little love and playful as well, but she doesn't fetch and listen as well as my boy does. |

My boys are momma's boys my girls tend to go to daddy. Here is a page I have on my website that may help. www.wvyorkies.com then go to boys Vs girls tab... it is not letting me do the direct link |
With Rizzo, boy 7.5 months old, he is a total lover. He runs and plays and is always excited about anything that I'm doing if I address him and make sure he feels like he is involved :P He loves to cuddle on the couch when I'm watching a movie, but as soon as I move it is play time :D I don't have a little girl, but my Rizzo is definatly affectionate and though it usually takes a couple hours around someone before he is ready to play or cuddle with new person. |
Jasmine is a mommy's girl. She loves her Daddy, she prefers her mommy. If I leave the room, you can be sure she will follow. When I sit, she is in my lap. She is extremely playful, loves her toys, outside, going for walks, car rides, meeting new people,....very friendly. She sleeps beside me and when we put her in bed and she snuggles in, then gives a big sigh of contentment...she is absolutely adorable. |
I have only ever had female dogs but my gran has had a few males, I find that the males seem to be more loving and the females seem to be more independant. |
I have 3 yorkies 2 males and 1 female and they all have different personalities. The 1 male plays 24/7 the other male wont play at all. My female wants love 24/7 and would be held like a baby all the time if she could be. So I think they all are different. |
Wow! Thanks for the great response! I only have a female right now and I would agree that she follows me everywhere, wants to play "ball mostly", and loves me. However, she does have an independent side too and while she likes to be around me, she doesn't necessarily want to be held all the time. Next year I would like to get another Yorkie and after having this discussion (even though I was leaning towards getting a girl, I might get a boy) My only concern with a boy was house training issues, are they really harder to train or about the same? And by the way Melissa, you have such beautiful Biewer dogs at Kissa's Yorkies & Biewers. The article on your website was very informative, as well. Thank you. I'm sure I will love either a boy or a girl, they are just such lovable dogs anyway:) |

Wow! Fizz is the complete description of my Maggie!!! My other girl does her own thing, "tolerates" other dogs, doesn't like to be held, and is definitely a daddies girl. I got her before I married my husband and I have ALWAYS said, "Abby thinks she married Andrew and brought me along!" I am planning to get a 3rd Yorkie because Maggie desperately needs somebody to play with. I will not get a 12 week old pup because I want to be able to ascertain the dog's personality. Hared to do that at 12 weeks! |
