Are yorkies Night owls? Hi, my name is Susan, I'm very new to this site. Hope to meet some of you ladies and gents soon! :D I don't have a baby yorkie yet, just trying to get as informed as i can. So here is my question.... My friends little girl is a complete night owl. Loves to sleep all day and is up until really, really late. Is this a common things with yorkies? ;) |
Hi, and welcome to YT! My little guy plays hard all day and conks out around 9pm if we are at home and on a regular schedule. He'll fall asleep on the couch, and I'll take him to potty and then to bed with me around midnight or so. He generally wakes me up around 7:30 am to go potty and eat, then sleeps for another hour or so. If we have visitors or are doing something, he will stay awake as long as I am because he doesn't want to miss any of the action! And then he usually sleeps in later the next day. But as a general rule, my little guy is NOT a night owl. He exhausts himself pretty well during the day. :D |
Welcome to YT! How old is she? My Scarlett is 13 weeks and and early bird -up at 4:30! Rhett is 6 months and sleeps through the night without a problem. So to me it seems to be an individual preference. |
Neither one of mine are night owls. They usually sleep in til 8-9 am |
hi, wow thanks for responding and for the welcome. :) She's about a year and a half but she not as active as some of your little ones seem to be. She loves to be on her moms lap or in her arms all day. I guess she saves all her energy for night time. |
Mine takes naps during the day but she dosent like to stay up really late. If it gets after 1am she starts getting grumpy and wants to go to bed and she will sit next to me and cry or go hit the bedroom door and sit at it and cry. |
Welcome to YT!!! Mine is a total couch potato. He is active if I throw the ball, or take him out for a long walk, but if I'm busy during the day, he is right next to me sleeping or relaxing. Like right now, he's just snoozing away. At night he is asleep by 9. I can't get him to do anything after 9 pm. Once in a blue moon he'll get the midnight zoomies, but for the most part, he's asleep from 9 pm to 4:30-5 am. He'll play, eat, and play some more, then relax and lay around all day. I think each yorkie is different, it just depends on their personality. |
One of mine, PIxie sleeps all day and keeps waking me up all night until I feed them at 3am then she sleeps until 9am. I am so sleep deprived. Nothing seems to work to break her of this habit. My other 3 would stay asleep if she didn't wake them up. |
My 3 are ready for bed around 8-9 and sleep till around 4-5. ( that is when I get up for work ) My male will lay back down, but my 2 females are ready to start their day. They have patterned their sleep schedules around mine, thank goodness! |
The M&Ms are sleepy-heads all around, even our 6 month old Mylo. Mikki (2y.o.), Minnie (3 y.o.) and Mylo are playing a lot during the day and when it gets around p PM Mikki insists to go nite-nite. When my dh come home from work at about midnight they are the welcome committee and go out for a last potty round. Then they come back to bed and sleep until 7.30 or 8 AM. I get up and let them out and start my day but they go back to bed with daddy and sleep until 9.30 AM... no night owls here... |
All three of ours are NOT night owls! I would say by 9-10pm & they are burning holes by staring at us to go to bed! :dogzzz: |
Mine is definitely not a night owl. He wakes up with me at around 8 am, sits on my feet for an hour or so while I drink my coffee. After that he's wide awake and following me around all day. By the time I"m ready to relax after cleaning up dinner dishes he's ready to curl up on my feet and watch tv. By 9:00 he is passed out on my foot waiting for me to carry him in to bed. |
Mine stares a hole thru me if I am not ready for bed by 9-10. If that doesn't work then the crying starts. Welcome to yt |

my lil one goes to bed when i go but at 6 6:30 she is ready to get up so she gets her daddy up then they let me sleep till 8 lucky me I'm the night owl i watch tv till all hours |
Mabel usualy sleeps when i sleep...But i am a bit of a night owl myself! We go to bed around 1-2 am...Except the other night she put herself to bed around 9 pm. I went upstairs to get something and there she was sound asleep on my pillow! :) |
Bella is 4lbs. and will be 2 years in October. She naps at least 2 hours during the day and wants to go to bed no later than 9:30. When she rolls over on her back and whimpers she wants her tummy rubbed and then she wants to go to her crate to sleep. She gets up about 7:30 a.m. and potties and then often crawls back under the covers with us and sleeps until 9 or 9:30 a.m. She's in her crate for the nightime stretch. |
My two do what ever I do...If I'm up late, they'll lie on the floor and sleep. Then when I say "okay let's go to bed. They'll get up and come with me. In the morning they sleep in with me as long as I do. I think you can teach your baby to do what you want. If he/she wakes up too early..hold him/her back and say "go back to sleep" (mine sleep with me) Almost just like a child...only dogs seem to listen better ;) |
My little girl sleeps when the lights are turned off, even though she has taken a few naps on my lap through out the day she would still sleep once the lights are off. Also after 12 she sleeps on her own if the lights are on or off, like right now she is sleeping between my legs =) |
Mine pretty much bed down when it gets dark outside, even w/the lights on in the house...Same for getting up in the morning...Right at dawn, they are awake...I guess they pretty much follow nature's cycle for critters...Now if I go out, in the evening, and come home between 10-12, they'll get up and play for an hr. or so, because they've, totally, been asleep, while I'm gone... |
Jackson is not a night owl. I think it's all dependent on exercise, too. If he didn't get his daily walks, fetch, trick training, etc, he would probably be up a lot earlier. A dog that is under exercised is not gonna want to sleep as much as a tired dog would, of course. When he was a pup, he woke up every morning around 5-6am but by 6 months, he stopped that. Jackson typically will sleep starting around 9pm, but I'm up 'til around 11 every night. (or he will chew his bully stick). So around 11, I let him out again for the last time and usually he sleeps 'til 9am the next morning with me. This morning, I had to get up at 7:30 and he was sooo slow moving, hah! |
No nite owl here. Pistol goes to be with me generally between 9pm. and 10pm. sleeps all night. He will get up with my DH at 5:30 am. he goes out to pee, comes in and eats, goes back outside to poo. When I get up at 6am. he usually naps beside me on the couch till I drink my two cups of coffee. Once I am ready for work play time begins and we will play till I have to leave. |

WE will soon have our lil one 9 months when we first got her it was 4 to 4;30 am because the lady we got her from got up at that time to go to work then she started at 5 to 5;30 am but now it's really about 5:45 to 6:30 we have done everything and she just wants up that early so hubby don't care so that is why he gets up with her they go out and sit on the porch and he has his coffee and now the neighbor joins them he said that was his time with her because she is getting to be more of a mommy dog since being in heat wants to be near me all the time now where i am you sure will find her there |
Both of mine go to bed about 9 pm. My little one who is just two, gets up when we do, even if it is 2 or 3 am. She naps with us about 2 pm. The bigger and older one gets up about 9 am. That is unless we make her get up. She loves her bed! |
Sugar is not a night owl, a morning owl, or an afternoon owl.....all this girl does is sleep!I think she's narcoleptic :D |
