How much does your Yorkie eat per day? My Yorkie barely eats in the morning. He would a little though, but when it's at night, before his bed time, he eats a lot. Is it bad for him to eat before his bed time? I free feed and everyday he eats around one cup or so, he's 15 pounds. |
I was free feeding until about a month ago. I have learned that by scheduled feeding my baby eats better. I put down about 1/2 a cup in the morning when he gets up and after half an hour or so I pick it up. He then gets what was remaining plus some fresh food around 5:30-6PM. He used to graze all day. He now takes advantage of the food when he gets it. He also does better with his poo poo'ing! Its just like a baby being on a schedule. I would not go back to free feeding for anything! It is probably going to be better for your baby to schedule feed him. |
I feed about 1/4 cup twice a day. My 3 are all right around 11 lbs or so. But I have to say the amount of food should also be appropriate to the activity level of your dog. Pebbles gets a little more since she is always on the move and Bogey gets less since he needed to lose a little weight. Doodlebug get right at 1/4 cup and that seems to be perfect for him. |
Jackson is also 15lbs and gets 1/4 cup in the AM and 1/4 cup in the PM, so 1/2 cup total per day. He's a very active dog (swimming, running, walking, dog parks, etc). I have been debating between whether to continue twice a day feedings, because he doesn't seem interested in eating in the morning either. So I'm still debating! He's done perfectly fine with once a day meals in the past, but for some reason I feel better feeding twice a day? I recently started a thread on it. |
I used to free feed Poppy but now I put it down at scheduled times and take it away when she is finished. I feed her 4 times a day with half wet chicken and rice food and half dry chicken and rice food, and she usually eats all of it. If you are leaving food out for him all day he wont eat it straight away because he knows it will be there later if he fancies it. Its upto you how you want to feed him, there is no right or wrong way but I find Poppy eats better if I put her food out at scheduled times. I also dont feed her after 7/8pm at night... she will get her food at 8am, 11am, 2pm and 5 pm. |
I feed 2x per day. All dogs get fed in am...Razz gets anywhere from 1/4 to 1/3 c per day, plus his training treats. Pm feeding for 2 out of 3 dogs is prox 6pm - but for my girl that I want to put weight on she gets feed about 9pm at night. |
