she's eating the carpet what can i do to stop lexi from eating the carpet on the corners., she scratches it and then bites eat.. she's making holes... i know there is bitter apple spray, and other sprays, but have so many areas to cover.. any suggestions would be appreciated...i was thinking of scat mats, not the electrofied ones, but i would need quite a few of them.. actually in need like strips of them so for now i could put them on the corners where the rug ends or starts.. |
The only thing I can think of would be sprays. There are a lot of them out there. Putting mats down will only make her pick at them. Mandy did that to us, I now have to replace all the carpet in the living room. Good Luck, if someone has a answer, I'll give it a try too. :) |
sorry, I don't have any answers for you either. Mia has done that to one of my rugs. Thank goodness it has only been a rug, so far! I have noticed that she only does it in the mornings when everyone else is asleep and I am getting ready for work... so there isn't anyone paying attention to her. Even though she has plenty of toys she can play with, she will entertain herself by pull the threads out of my rug. (and I'm talking about her being left alone for 15-20 minutes, not hours!) I have NEVER seen her doing this... but I have the holes to confirm that she is indeed the culprit! My solution has been to keep the rug around, at least this way she leaves my carpet alone... :( When the holes stop growing, I will just buy a new rug! ;) |
Sorry im no help Mine have chewed on my rugs too. |
Same here, my baby almost devoured our carpet in the basement, brand new berber carpet...I'd love to hear some suggestions. Also, all of my area rugs are either peed on or chewed up. |
c'mon guys we need some help here. need good suggestions ok? my carpet is on 2 years old.... |
Does she play with tennis balls or toys that have that type of coating on them? Our trainer said not to give them those kinds of toys because it makes them chew holes in the carpet. Maybe take those types of toys away and replace with other kinds. Not sure what to use on the carpet to deter further chewing. Good luck. |
sorry i cant help because i have the same problem. i get soooooo mad when Crunchy does it. when i wake up i'll find threads of carpet pulled up along the edges. i figure i've already lost my deposit btwn this and the occassional accidents on the carpet  ....so hopefully i can get some tips from this post too. |
I'm probably gonna get blasted for doing this....but I can't take Trace destroying my $5,000 worth of less than 2 year old carpet....any way he doesn't bite at it....he digs and sniffs...frantically I might add. When I've caught him doing it you can just tell he's thinking..."I'm a lean mean carpet tearing up machine..gotta do it faster, faster :)" What I've done is sprinkle a little pepper there and that's seemed to work. He doesn't like the smell and if he takes a good enough sniff....his response is the same as yours...he sneezes. He's only worked on an edge and it's been repaired. He's never done it to any other area. Keepin' my fingers crossed, that and the baby gate isn't coming down any time soon. |
oooh pepper, that sounds like a good idea...hope that wont ruin the carpet. im going to try that this weekend. thanks for the idea |
How about baby-gating him away from carpeted areas except for the times that you can keep a keen eye on him? I personally think that a small dog can be perfectly happy in *part* of the house. |
