Tank gets manic around 7 or 8 pm! Tank, 5 months old, is my first Yorkie. Around 7 or 8 p.m. every night he gets manic! Attacks our Maltese, attacks me, races around the house or yard grabbing leaves, bird feathers, pieces of wood and resisting any attempt to rein him in. This is a regular occurrence so I thought I'd see if anyone else has this issue. Otherwise he is normal acting. But I start to dread this time of evening. Ironically, 9 p.m. is what we call "quiet time" when we all wind down and watch tv and hang out. But Tank makes the preparations for quiet time so hectic and painful! |
My 2 go crazy around 6:00 and there is no stopping them! |
It's the last mad rush before they crash at bedtime |
Dudley is guilty of this too, :Dit happens every night after we both get home and are getting dinner ready, going from one room to another, and doing the daily grind and chores..... He settles down after we get settled in front of the tv |
It's the zoomies! Gotta luv those. lol Roxy did it too when she was younger. It always cracked me up. Good luck with your quiet time. This will continue for awhile, but will eventually quiet down. Only Tank knows when it will happen. Roxy was never in an attack mode. She didn't know the rest of us existed. She was in a world of her own. Hang in there, it will get better. It seems to be something that young yorkies go through. It means he's normal. : ) |
Rio and Bullet do it every night too, around 8pm. I call it the Rio and Bullet 500, because they race around and around our couch and coffee table at top speed. It's so cute, because after they get tired, they run to the kitchen for a water break, and then continue the race! I'm glad they do it since it tires them out so they sleep right away when it's bedtime! |
My sweet little angel goes manic right before we go to bed. Once I start my normal night routine she starts running through the house and acting just crazy!! I love her little spunk but gosh, she's wild!!! |
Toby & Speedy go CRAZY every night between 10 pm and 11:30 pm. They race up and down the hallway, into my office, back down the hallway and into the bedroom. This is every single night! I can always tell when they've been racing as the big throw rug in the bedroom is all messed up. |
Reesie has a chase-the-cat episode every day about that time. It's funny when the cat chases back! (no claws) btw, Tank is a cool name for a tiny dog! |
"Zoomies" I love it! At least your Zoomies are at a normal time of night... when Harley used to get it, he would always flip out at 11pm (which was our before we go to sleep last attempt at a bathroom break)... blah! He has since calmed down. His Zoomies now occur when I get home from work and let him out of his room, it's a 5 minute tear of "how many places in the house can I touch before momma makes me calm down" Welcome to the world of Yorkies... And of course they are too darn cute when they do this stuff, you can't even imagine getting mad at them... I just laugh. |
They have lots of energy. We go for walks at 6 am every morning and just before dark every evening. They get restless and bored, I think. Anyway, mine crashes when we come in. |
I'm glad I read this thread. I thought my babies were the only ones that got crazy after dinner. I initially thought is was because I used to try to tire my first one out when she was little so she would sleep during the night. Now that I have a new one, who is just over six months, the crazy time has gotten a little later. It went from about 6 pm to about 8 pm. I think it's funny to watch them. My son and his wife are visiting and they laugh histerically at them slide across the floor running and playing. |
I have had all kinds of furkids...Shepherd, Basset Hound, Afghan Hound, Boxer and never had the craziness that goes on from 7-8pm!! Lol! I have my Bentley (16 months) and a Boxer (10 months)....It's amazing that at those times they just start doing their thing!! Then about 8:30 they are both zonked out!! |
Walk Him? I also have a 5 month old male Yorkie Puppy, when he starts getting hyper I take him for a short walk around the block. This usually tires him out enough to leave my other 3 older Yorkies alone. Do you "Walk" him or give him any structured "Exercise"? A Walk is also another way to Bond, besides Sleeping & Grooming them. It teaches them to follow and trust you, potty training & exercise are good for them too! As far as "Play Time", I make sure I control that too, so they are on my schedule otherwise he would be playing and hyper all the time. |
Maybe you could take him for a walk when its nearing the time and hopefully wear him out?? |
