Licking like CRAZY! So my little man for some of you who don't know is 6 months old and he is going through this really weird stage right now. He is lick US me and my husband like CRAZY he will lick our fingers he will lick our toes arms legs...just about anything on our body. Whats up with that? Do any of you have any clue why he is doing that??? Look forward to hearing your replies! |
Tucker does it too.. usually when im petting him he will either lick me or knaw on me.. as much as you dont want to hear this, i think its probably due to being away from his mom to early. We got Tucker when he was almost 7 weeks old. Tucker didnt start either untill he was about 6 months old. I tell him no and try and stop him from doing it, but he is almost 2 now and think its a habit that will stay. |
I read in a book, I think called "Oh My Dog" (great book btw) that excessive licking can be a sign of stress...can be, obviously every dog is different, and maybe the two of you just taste really sweet ;-) |
Every yorkie I have been around licks alot! Mine will constantly lick or "give kisses". Gets kind of annoying sometimes lol |
my brother's pug would constantly lick us. I always thought it was from boredom, stress, or just plain ol' "wow! You are tasty!" mentality. :D My Bailey licks us too, but now he is so nippy. :-( we tell him no and it just continues.. We're not playing but apparently he thinks we are... *sigh.. |
Personally, I think it's adorable, but I did read somewhere that it could be a sign of dominance. I also found this article that says if could be either dominance or submission: Behavior - Licking Maybe some of his other behaviors could help you figure it out (if he tends to display other acts of either dominance or submission). If not, maybe it's just his way of showing how much he LOVES his mommy and daddy!:p |
I hope it means because he just loves us!! He loves giving so many kisses...hes a very loveable pup. I want to get another one but my husband wont let me :( |
Maybe he's lacking salt in his diet... |

Kaji is obsessed with licking my older brother. As soon as he comes home on the weekends, Kaji plants himself next to him and licks, licks, licks his hands. I have to tell him to stop or he won't. Mind you, he will be 2 yrs old in 5 days. If you think it might be what KJC said, have him checked by a vet, otherwise it'll be a bad habit if you don't stop him from doing it. |
Excessive licking in Brandi means something is physically wrong with her. She licks me occassionally but when she cannot stop licking, she is trying to tell me something is wrong. Most of the time it's just an upset stomach or gas but there was one occassion where I had to rush her to the emergency vet in our area. When she starts pacing back and forth (like she can't get comfortable) and won't stop licking me or anything near her, I know to take heed and watch her very closely. I'm am actually kinda of glad that she does. It's almost like an early warning. |
I can sympathize with you. Mine licks all the time too. She has been to the vet for all her puppy shots and vet says she is fine and hopefully she'll outgrow her 'bad' habit (vet's words). I wish I could help but will keep checking on here to see if someone has an answer. |
Carlie is a night time licker Carlie (2.5 years) licks our sheets and pillows at night before we all fall asleep. (I would like to add that we change our sheets every week) Sometimes she wakes me up in the middle of the night with her scratchy sounding busy little tongue. I have wondered if something was wrong with her too. |
thats funny...I guess I thought i was the only one with a licking puppy but I guess Im not the only one :) |
Oliver is a licker too.. he gives as many kisses as you'll allow... Mya loves to lick my feet (ewwwwwwwww) and isn't huge on kisses. I guess every dog is different... I've never felt there might be anything wrong with either of them, they're just showing their love.. lol |
Mine are not incessant lickers, but after I put body lotion on, my legs and arms, they want to lick...Common sense tells me this is NOT something they need to be ingesting, so I tell them, firmly, no, and they stop... |
