Puppy update We went and saw the puppy in Rochester today and she's so cute! The breeder told us that she will only have a soft coat, not a silky. What does this mean? Is this good or bad? She's very tiny and will be around two pounds as an adult. She had a very nice personality. We can't wait to bring her home! The breeder is going to have her spayed this week. Roxie :aimeeyork |

Hi, You say the puppy is tiny and isn't even going to reach 2lbs full grown and the breeder is fixing her already???!! A soft coat isn't as good as a silky one. They look cute because they are very furry and cuddly as pups but the coat mats and tangles more and never will have the long silky straight look. Some people like the soft coat look though. I'm just concerned about that breeder fixing a very tiny puppy, how old is she and what does she weigh now?? |
I'm confused as to what soft coated means. I'm so use to cottony, silky, and modified. Can a breeder tell what coat a puppy will have? I'd be concerned with the early spay of a tiny dog as well. I hope they do a blood panel at the very least. |
Congratulations on your new pup. I too am a bit concerned about her trying to fix a dog that isnt even 2 pounds yet though... |
Our new puppy was born on Jan. 21st, so she's 6 months old. She's just under 2 pounds. This breeder believes that Yorkies should stay with their mother and siblings for a longer period of time. She also gets most of their shots in along with socializing and house training using puppy pads. It's really something special! We met the mother of our puppy along with the siblings, and saw pictures of the father. He was in Canada as a stud to another breeder. He's won many awards. Beautiful dog. We thought this was a wonderful program for Yorkies. Very loving and great care given to each dog. Let me know your thoughts on this. We were also told that our puppy will remain black and tan along with the soft coat. She will always look like a puppy. She was so well behaved, played with the other dogs, just so precious! Now we're trying to find the right name for her. Thanks so much for your time! Roxie |

The only thing that does concern me a teeny, tiny bit is spaying her before she even reaches 2 lbs. I do respect the breeder for thinking of her first and wanting to make sure she is spayed before going to her new forever home. As a breeder, you never know when someone will look at a puppy as small as this one and think $$$$$$. I'm not saying you would, but I understand the breeder's concern. Let us know when she's going in for her spay so we could send YT prayers her way. |
We just heard back from the breeder and the puppy will be spayed on Friday. I'd really appreciate it if you all could say a prayer for her. We still haven't come up with a name yet - here's what we have so far: Dolly, Mimi, Gracie, Rosie, and Angel. Any other ideas for names that would go nicely for a tiny little girl? Thanks so much! Well, I think that you should ask the breeder to send you home with whatever they are feeding or at least get the name of it and buy some for her. I'm not an expert but I've learned that they have very delicate bellies--especially yours who is only 2lbs. I think that the theory is that it will be stressful just being spayed and moved to a new house so to introsuce new food immediately may be too much for her. However, once you choose the food you want to feed her GRADUALLY introduce it. More poeple on here should be able to explain how to do that better than I can. We feed Innova. Good luck! |
Congrats on your little girl. I'll be sure to say a prayer that her spaying goes well. Gracie is a really cute name...and since she's so teeny tiny, I think "Tink" (as in Tinkerbell) is cute too. Can't wait to see pics!! |
