Long Walks We walk 4 miles every morning - my two Kerry Blue Terriers, Dante (16 weeks old, 4 pounds), and me. We usually join 3 labs, and sometimes a couple of Australian Shepards and a Lhaso Apso (tho those wimps usually only walk 1-2 miles). Does anyone else walk that far routinely? Before I got Dante, people told me that small dogs couldn't walk that far... but he always seems full of energy! Sometimes I drop Riley's leash and Dante picks it up and walks him - Riley's 37 pounds of power, but he lets Dante hold the leash. If I can get a good picture of that, I'll post it. |
Sounds like fun meeting up with friends for a walk. I would love to see a picture. We do about a one mile walk every morning and if the weather is nice we do another in the evening when 'daddy' gets home. We are wimps too. lol |
I'm sure Banditsocks2 will pop up in this thread... but she's got two little ones (I think 5 and 6lbs) and they can go on forever, there's a circle in the neighborhood that's like 4-5 miles and they do it fine. :) Jackson's 15lbs and I think he tires out before they do... ;) haha, but no he loves it too. He can walk a long time. He can pretty much go all day if necessary, whether it be swimming, running, whatever. |
Buster could walk forever. Don't know what it is with him, but once he gets the harness and leash on he is ready to go. Make sure you have your walking shoes on when he is ready to go. Maggie is ready to stop after a mile or so. I just purchased a stroller as we are going to the dog show tomorrow. The stroller will come in handy when Maggie is tired of walking. |
We walk alot too as well as hike. But with young under one year old dogs, we limit the difficulty of the walks. By that I mean you take in weather conditions, hot hot hot, or snow and ice, and as well as inclines. When very very young 12 wks old or so, 30 minute walks twice per day. As pups grow up, maybe 6mths old one hour. Razz at 8 months old was doing three hour hikes with a swim in the middle, and he was exhausted by the time we got back to car. Now hike is out on trails different and uneven surfaces with some inclines, not pavement walking. |
Ringo can walk forever ~ doesn't much matter the weather or the terrain. Lucy simply cannot walk far in this heat. If we even walk for a mile or so ~ I try to pick her up here and there to give her a rest. It's been so humid, even at 9:00 pm at night, the dogs are panting and I am sweating. I felt guilty for not walking them last night but it was just too hot and humid. |
When the weather is cooler I've walked Bella 4 miles. We have done 5, but I carried her part of that. She's about 6-7 pounds. |
Couver can go forever when it comes to walking. I just pay attention to the temperature and don't walk him during the heat of the day. |
I walk between 6 and 8 miles each morning with my little boy and our yorkie pup. I take the buggy so my little boy can have a break in the middle, but he still manages to do at least 5 of those miles, which isn't bad considering he's just had his 4th birthday. And I have a sportskit type bag hanging on the handles which the pooch can go in if she gets tired. She loves being able to look out of there while we stroll on. |
Alex goes for daily walks with our Border Collie. There are some days where just go for a nice walking and there are some days I go jogging with both of them. For Alex, he loves the walks and if it is hotter on the days we run he likes to be picked up and carried more frequently. For such a little dog, he loves his walks! |
I think every dogs love to walk! |
