Grooming question I was just wondering, Oliver is 16 weeks and now has all his shots so I want to look into getting him groomed...I LOVE his little puppy look right now so I'm not ready to take him in quite yet haha but I was just wondering at what age did you all take your puppies in to be groomed for the first time? Also, how often do you take them in? I saw one person mention every 6 to 8 weeks. Would love your input, thanks!!! :D |
I bought little baby scissors with rounded edges for trimming around Teegy's face and nether regions. But I cut him myself. I let his hair grow enough that his new hair came through and cut off all his fluffy puppy hair. Try it yourself, really, I give him treats after and he doesn't mind at all now, it's par for the course. |
This is what I was told regarding grooming... It's good to bring them in around 3-4 months of age for a "hygenic" groom (clean up the bottom, trim nails, trim the hair on the pads of their feet, "tip" the ears, etc...nothing major). This also allows the pup to become familiar with the groomer to make later groomings go more smoothly. As far as how frequently you should take your pup in, most groomers around here say every 6 weeks. I'm probably not going to go that often, more like 8-10 weeks depending on how LuLu's hair grows. |

I took Zoe at 12 weeks of age. |
Khloe was groomed by me for the first time at 21 weeks |
I just groomed MY little Oliver's hair two nights ago. He is 16 weeks on Saturday, but he sure was a little furball! His hair was like two inches long! It took me almost three hours, but that included bathing him and drying him. My husband fed him his dinner as "treats" to keep his attention away from the scissors. Honestly, it looks amazing and I'm so glad that I did it! With the texture of his hair, you can't even tell that it wasn't professionally done. Try it. :) |
I waited till about 5-6 months and wished i'd gone earlier lol. They do okay though...but they dont like getting left there. If you give your dogs a special treat that they only get after bathing or after getting groomed, they seem to not mind going so much. |
