Why do people just assume Why do people just assume that you want to mate a new pup to the one you already have? I have a neutered male Jersey Boy 1 1/2 yrs old, our new addition Brielle 4 months, when ever I tell someone I got a new little girl, 1st question is " are you going to breed them?" (breed mate not sure which is correct term). Why? |
I know it is really sad....unfortunately a lot of people only see dollar signs with regard to Yorkies :( |
because they are hoping to get a cheap Yorkie pup? My friends Mario and Kevin got a female, little Sofie, 2 weeks before I got my bundle of nonsense. Everyone was saying you should breed them so we can have one, oh bite me. I mean they are both totally cute but, get your own, hahahahaha |
Most do not understand the need for having more than one.....also many know the cost of yorkies and assume since you have female/male you are going to breed.... |
I get the same thing all the time. I have to explain to them that my male is neutered and my female will be spayed once she's old enough. It is kind of upsetting :( |

I get it all the time. I have six and everyone thinks I'm a breeder. Quite the opposite. I'm involved with rescue. Five of mine are rescues. ALL are spayed and neutered. Elaine |
I use to be one of those people, if someone had two cute dogs; I just assumed they were breeding them. I had no idea what went into breeding. It wasn't until I had a bad experience with a poorly breed dog, and the vet looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, "damn backyard breeders", that I even had a clue. |
I totally agree! I have been contemplating on getting Miloh a little sister, since I've read so many posts where it helps a Yorkie when they stay home. But I am tired of always getting offers to breed my boy. I love him and do not see him as a money maker. This may sound selfish but if someone wants a Yorkie, I'm sure they can save up and buy one just like I did. I leave the breeding to the professionals. |

I am a breeder, so when i keep one i have the intention to breed. But i have seen one strategy that helps, from the very families that get our puppies... whenever they are looking to add another one of the opposite sex, they express to their friends and family as a "LITTLE BROTHER OR LITTLE SISTER " ... immediately people get the message that they do not intend to breed and are looking to add another companion only ! But with that comes an annoying side effect: they will look at you thinking you are a little "kookoo" hehehe... for wanting to have more than one , ... or 2... maybe 3... the lady who posted a reply here has 6 ... so you will have to educate your friends about how adictive it is to be owned by a yorkie !!! Enjoy your little ones :p XOXO |
I get that VERY often! Actually alot of people assume that. " Oh is that a breeding pair? " When I say my boy is fixed they look at me sort of funny like " oh what a shame, he would of had nice pups " etc. I like to explain my reasonings for WHY my boy is fixed and why I am not breeding my female. After that they seem to understand a bit more. |
I;ve gone thru this - some in my family thought I was should have bred and sold puppies from my girls - My my answer is always the same - my girls are PETS only even if they weren't spayed - I'd still never do it - rather leave the breeding to the pros. I couldn;t have lived with myself if all I saw were dollar signs AND couldnt bear to lose one if anything went wrong but some people think it's extra income and just don't get it - that's not the way to breed. It's a serious undertaking and many believe it's no big deal and don't understand why I would not consider money as a motivating factor and if anyone needs extra income these days - it's Me. I went round and round with someone about this same subject and it never did sink in - she loves me but thought I was nuts for not considering it. |
When I first got my 2 new babies ( littermates male and female) I had 3 people ask me if I was going to mate them when I told them they were brother and sister they said " yeah so" ....how ignorant can you get that's gross!! |
Yeah, I don't get it. I have a little boy and people keep asking me if I am going to breed him, and I have been approached by just about everyone in town with any small breed dog asking if I want to breed boo with their dog! I always tell them no of course, but they look at me like I"m crazy. A of all they have no idea what they are doing breeding dogs. Secondly, my dog is a pet and I am not a pimp. And last, but not least there are so many dogs around here that need homes, I'm not going to contribute to the problem by helping to breed mixed breed dogs who could end up with serious health problems! |
It seems like most of us get the same type of comments. My answer is usually "No! Jersey is neutered and Brielle will be spayed. They are my pets, I'm not a breeder." |
