Generally you can double the weight at 12 weeks of age to determine ultimate weight. Some people say double the weight and add a pound. Many Yorkies are surprises and grow less or more than predicted. Max was 3 pounds, 2 oz at 13 weeks and is now 8 pounds full grown. Teddy was 5 pounds, 6 oz at 7 months old. He is 7.5 pounds full grown. |
I'm still confused. I heard he might be 7-8 pounds. He's pretty big for a almost 3 month pup. I laughed the other day cus I got him on Saturday and he looks a bit bigger. He's not as quiet as I thought he would be. He's a little warrior..LOL |

It varies so much, it is really hard to know! Some say triple the 8 week weight or double the 12 week weight. Both of my boys got bigger than they were expected to be. :) |

I thought Ruger would stop at 6 lbs, but he's over 9 lbs now. I've heard many Yorkies turn out to be surprises, and there are no guarantees even if your Yorkie has papers a mile long and his parents are small. I like Ruger's size, and the only downside to owning a larger Yorkie is they are very active and curious and can get into more things. I have to keep moving things higher and higher. :rolleyes: |
Yeah you can't really tell. I even asked the vet, she wasn't sure. Maybe 8 pounds the most. He's learning to go up the stairs now. He's one curious pup. =) |
Hi - Welcome to YT! As far as size goes - ya just never know and there's no guarantee. :) So many people have found that they love this breed and want to breed them. The problem is that the majority of the people breeding the Yorkie are unaware of the complexity of this breed. Most are buying a female and male and then just breeding them without knowing anything about them and their "family line". Then what you get is a "box of chocolates". :p There is a "standard" that they are suppose to be - just like every other breed - but most people don't even know what that is before they breed them. They just know that they want a cute little furry puppy. Another difference is that with a Toy breed every little thing is more obvious. Say a Lab is bigger than the standard by a few pounds - most don't think anything of it. But if a Yorkie is a couple pounds over the standard - it's really noticable. It is really important to know where and from whom your puppy came from. Only then will you know if there has been any problems with the previous generations. Plus, it's just nature's way but you're always going to find - even with the best lines - that there will be a couple that seem to have come out of no where.... a big one or a real tiny one.
