Hello i am new Hello yorkie lovers!! I am looking for a little girl yorkie to join my family. I would like her to be a small yorkie (not a teapot as much as i love them) I am wondering if you can help me as what kind of questions i should ask the breeders and what size the mother and father should be? What sort of things i will need to look out for? I would like all this information before i go looking for my perfect little girl. Thank you |
You should ask your breeder their philosophy on breeding - what are their goals? What kinds of testing do they do to insure that their puppies are healthy and that they are not breeding dogs with known breed issues. Our breed is 36x more likely than any other breed to develop liver shunts so this is a definite "must ask" question in my opinion. I'd also ask about luxating patella (another breed issue) and given all I keep hearing about neurological diseases that may be congenital, I'd ask that too. You are smart to ask these questions now - I did not do that with my first two dogs but did for my third. I have a breeder that I can call at any time with any issue and she is there for us. As for size of the dogs - I always ask if they breed to the Yorkie standard - you want to avoid anyone breeding a dog that is too small or anyone saying they have "teacups." Good luck finding your perfect girl! |
First - welcome to YT, There is really no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie Before buying a puppy read this: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/fea...ead-first.html Also, I see you are in England so check out the Kennel Club site The home for dog owners and those working with dogs - The Kennel Club Click on the Buying a Dog button and click on Find A Puppy service. And look for a registered Yorkshire Terrier breeder in your area. |
Welcome to YT! I hope you find the perfect little girl to add to add to your family! You'll find SOO much helpful information on this site! Can't wait to hear updates! :D |
Welcome to the site! I hope you can find the perfect little girl for you! :) You also need to make sure you find a breeder that you're comfortable with. I'm struggling with that right now and having issues with my breeder. But, things are slowly getting better. :) Good luck and I can't wait to hear updates! |
