On our walk today It's been super hot here lately and people will usually walk their dogs in the late evening. I took Tila for a walk tonight and we met a woman walking a rottie, and two smaller dogs. She was on one side of the street and we were on the other side. She stopped and yelled across the street to ask what kind of dog Tila was and how old she was. So we're yelling across the street at one another and Tila's looking at the other dogs and she starts whining and squealing. She's not scared and she doesn't bark at other dogs, but she gets excited and wants to play and meet every dog she sees. She seriously sounds like a squealing piglet sometimes. Does anyone know what I might be able to try to get her to be less vocal? Also Tila looks like a yorkie? I get asked all the time what kind of dog she is, maybe it's because of her coloring? Thanks. I wasn't sure if I should post this here or the training section. |
Roxie is all Yorkie too, and I get asked constantly what kind of dog she is. I always just assume that, like me, there are lots of people out there who can't identify every kind of dog breed. |
Ah, sometimes I wonder why people ask what breed my dogs are. Because when I tell them that my big boys are yorkies they always look at me and say, "No way they are yorkies.. they must be mixed. Or perhaps they are silkies." No, really they are yorkies! It is like they don't believe me.. Then why ask!? As for your neighbor though, maybe she was just using it as a conversation starter, or perhaps she just isn't really familiar with a lot of different dog breeds. Also, since there are so many mixed breeds out there now, maybe she wasn't sure if your dog was mixed too. For your other question, I cannot help you because whenever my dogs see another dog, they want to run over and play with them too no matter how big they are. My Marshall is like your Tila because he squeals like crazy when he spots another dog and pulls really hard on the leash. Hopefully someone will have some experience with this on how to fix it. :) |
i get asked a lot too about Hammer, because he is larger. |
Maybe only give about a foot of leash, and just keep walking, not letting her look back. After this type of training, she should be ok, but if she happens to do it again, don't hesitate to have the leash short and start walking. It isn't that people are rude or stupid when they ask, it's because they really don't know the breed. Some Yorkies do look more Silky than Yorkie. Heck, my husband just called a big beautiful Basset a Beagle last thursday at the farmers market. The nice couple just smiled and said he's a Basset. I'm sure they probably thought my husband was a bit "stupid" too. ;) |
Thanks everyone. Oh no, I didn't mean anything. I don't mind answering anyone's questions since I could probably talk about Tila all day. lol. :) I guess I just assume that most people know all about dog breeds. But not everyone is a crazy dog lady like me. LOL. |
I was on a yorkie meet up, and this girl was there with her yorkie, she ask me what kind of dogs were mine?? hello:rolleyes::yelrotflm |
