Is this normal in a yorkie? WELL BELLA IS 11MTHS NOW AND SHE IS DOING GREAT! THE ONLY THING I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT IS I HAVE BOUGHT SEVERAL MAGAZINES AND BOOKS BEFORE BELLA CAME HOME. I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS THE RIGHT BREED FOR ME.I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL PICTURES OF YORKIES AND SOME HAVE THEIR EARS VERY PERKY AND POINTED BUT I HAVE ALSO SEEN SOME WITH THEIR EARS DOWN. IN A YORKIE SHOULD THE EARS ALWAYS BE UP? DOES IT EVEN MATTER? I LOVE BELLAS EARS BUT WHEN I TOOK HER TO THE GROOMERS SHE SAID SHE WAS SURPRISED TO SEE HER EARS REALLY FLOPPY. SO DOES THAT MEAN THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH HER? I'VE READ THAT WHEN THEY ARE BABY'S SOME BREEDERS EVEN PUT LITTLE STICKS ON THEIR EARS TO HELP THEM STAY UP.SO SHOULD I EVEN BE CONCERNED? OR IS THAT NORMAL? LET ME KNOW THANKS:rolleyes: |
Welcome and congratulations on your new pup. Yorkies ears are suppose to stand up. As they are teething they can go up and down, so to help this we shave the hair off the top half of the ears and tape them. Sticks are not good to use since pups can take off their tapes and get to the sticks and chew them. Here is a link to help: Jon-An's Yorkshire Terriers (How to train Yorkies ears to stand) and Top Taping Yorkie Ears Taping Yorkshire Terrier Ears Stand Erect Yorkie Ears Some ears do not stand no matter what you do, since their ear leather is too think or ears are too long. Just be prepared if your do not stand. Best of luck. *P.S. When typing a post all caps means you are yelling. Just thought I would let you know. :) |
Hammers ears are down. I just love the way they flop in the wind when he runs. We never really tried to get them to stand. the "standard" is to have them up, but to each their own. |
Rhett's ears are at half mast all the time. We tried to get them to stand with taping, but he was a master at getting out of it faster than I could get the tape in. They suit his personality. |
is this normal? :)thanks for the suggestions i will look into the link. i will do what the link tells me to do , but if it dosn't work it's ok at least i tried. i love her either way,her ears are so cute and wobily. thanks everyone for your advice i'm new to this so i'm really glad i'm getting good feed back from you |
My one's ears didn't stand up til he was a year old. He's three now, and they're up a lot, but not all of the time. I think he likes to pick and choose when to have them up! He's in love with the Lhasa apso next door, maybe he's trying out different looks for him! :D |
