Seriously Need Advise!!! 1 Attachment(s) I purchased my first Biewer last year, (she was born November 16). I picked her up at the breeders residence in PA. on March 20. This girl was to be my show/breeding girl and the start of my Biewer breeding program. After having Caylee of almost a month she developed liver colored ticking on her neck, chest, legs and feet. The ticking began to produce color on the legs. Is this acceptable? The standard calls for "Pure or Absolute" white, is there a "gray" area in the standard? I had her entered in an IABCA show earlier but pulled her because of the obvious coloring. For those who have been with this breed longer I would certainly appreciate your input. Also Caylee is 8 months now and 3 pounds 8 ozs. According to the breeder she can still be bred, are the Biewers different? I included a couple pics of the coloring |
I can supply pedigree's if that help (by PM only). I know that is important when it comes to breed developement. I did post my concerns on another forum with out much interaction. |
Hi Dixies Mom ~~~ It is very hard to evaluate the pup by the pic.. do you have full pics of this little lady? If you would prefer to email me... that is fine also. From what I can see on her leg.. looks like brown spotting. In relation to the size of the leg I can't really tell how large it is, but would love to see a full pic with the color splotching you are talking about. Then a better Idea could be given on opinion as to being a small color fault... or large. I would be concerned on her size, however, she may be from slow growing lines. Has the breeder mentioned that her line is slow growing? Regards Quote:

Hi Kathryn! :) When we were talking the other day, I know you told me that she had brown ticking, but I assumed you meant on her skin....these spots are in her coat, aren't they? :confused: I have never heard/seen this. Hopefully, some Biewer folks can answer ya. Her size does seem small, but like the other poster said...maybe slow growing lines. I hope you can get this figured out. Tammy |
4 Attachment(s) Here (I hope) are more photo's As you can see the color is coming through on the legs. I was told to give her a year to year and a half but after seeing pictures of the mother, I believe it's only going to get worse. |
At 8 months most Biewers are pretty close to their adult size--maybe another 1/2 pound--which means this girl is too small to breed. IMHO no Biewer less than 5-5.5# should be breed and even then it would depend on structure, temperment, vet's input, and other factors like OFA, bloodwork, etc. Are you saying there are/is brown color coming from the brown spots on the legs and neck? This is definitely a color fault. Biewers are not supposed to have any brown or tan except on the face according to the standards. I think it is time for a heart to heart with your breeder. It won't get better in a year. The time for action is now when the breeder can replace her or find her a pet home while she is still young. |

The spotting is producing brown coloring on the legs, around the backend under the tail and the sides. I have spoken with the breeder and her husband, they have no concerns about breeding a dog her size. They have offered me another pup but I did not want one from the same litter due to the same issues occuring. I did ask that I be able to pay a reasonable pet price for Caylee, have her spayed and keep her as a pet. Their reasonable pet price was 2500.00, I can't justify that. Regardless, I will not breed her because of her coloring and her size. |
Then you have to make a decision or two. $2500 is an expensive pet. Return her and wait for another litter. Or, see if the breeder will come down on her pet price if you spay her. Or, find a different breeder to work with next time. Most pet Biewer girls sell for about $2000 unless they are really small. |
