Worms as an appetizer???? My Rosco - 14 wks old loves to eat dead or dried up earthworms. Anyone had to deal with this issue and do you know if it causes problems? I wonder if that is where he got the coccidia from I've been treating him for? Any ideas how to make him stop please inform would be most appreciative! Thank you! |

dogs are fine eating worms its just protein however if it grosses you out maybe check his food to see if he is getting enough protein in his diet.... |
Not uncommon We have 6 dogs across our family and each and everyone will eat an old dried up worm if they see it. Yuck, but doesn't seem to cause any problems. I think it's a delicacy to them. |
Merlin will eat them too. Sometimes I catch him with the worm sticking out of his mouth and he swallows quickly before I can get to him... I don't think it's doing any harm, I just refuse kisses afterwards. |
I am so with you on this, I have three dogs and up until my sweet yorkie girl came we never had a problem with worms. She actually stalks them and then ponces and now that she know we are watching she grabs it and runs. Gross especially from such a sweet girl. If you have a cure let me know |
Mine like the dried up worms they find on the sidewalk when we go for walks. They are very close to the sidewalk and get them before I see them. I try to look ahead to see if there are any. Usually I can offer a treat and they will spit out the worm (sometimes). A couple of years ago I asked my vet and he seemed to think I shouldn't let them eat the worms. If I can stop them I will but it's usually a draw. |
Sissy lovesssss worms dried, dead or alive and wiggling. She rubs her face all over them and the smell omg. She has to have extra baths because I can't stand the smell of her. |
ummm worms ! Packed with protien I heard :D and haha on the rolling in them - mine did that when I had a yard and it was pretty gross. For some reason dogs will roll and try to submerge themselves in stuff like that - I never did know why but I remember quite a few instant baths when mine did it don't have this problem anymore thankfully :) |
OP you're not alone. Rocco loves the dried up ones (fondly referred to as gummy worms or worm jerky!), and he'll also dig out the live ones with his nose:p. Just like a bird, he digs with his face, then comes up with one dangling (fondly referred to as worm sushi!). |
Count my dogs as earth worm connoisseurs! I know when I see them rolling in the grass that they have found another worm. They seem to really enjoy the worms dehydrated. |
Rhett thinks they are a treat. {shivers} |
