What kind of coat.. 2 Attachment(s) What kind of coat do you think my yorkie has by looking at these pics? Her hair doesn't seem to be as thick as other yorkies and is kind of wavy..it gets really soft and straighter after a bath but when she goes outside or plays it gets wavy again and looks like she hasn't been bathed in weeks lol.. :) Do you think her hair will get thicker as she grows she is 10 weeks right now and such a sweetheart here she is Attachment 321704 Attachment 321705 I did not get to see her parents but anyone else think she is soo tiny for 10 wks? Anyone??? :) Responses are hard to come by when your a newb. I guess lol... |
Hi and welcome to Yorkie Talk. Your baby is a sweetie, If you want to get a better response go to the breeders or show breeder section, they will be able to help you out, I use to breed but not now a wavy coat is I was told is a woolly coat. She to me looks like a red leg but I could be wrong, she is still very young and coats are hard to judge until the yorkie is at least 6 mons but her hair seems alittle short as most yorkies go at her age, A Red Leg is not heard of much now days but breeder of old use to keep at least one in their lines to keep the coats from getting too light. They don't grown very long hair , maybe half way down the leg, the coat usally stays black and the gold is almost rust in color, Good thing is if thats what she is you won't have to worry about cutting her later as some people chose to do. If she is a woolly coat then her hair will be really thick and wavy later on. If you blow her dry after baths it will help pull the curl out. I think she is a cutie anyway, Post her pics on the breeders section you should get more responses that way, It is hard for me to tell a lot from the pics at this point, But good luck on finding out more. I would like to know what others think about her coat so if you post somewhere else post here too so I will know thank you so much. Sorry I can't be more help I never got to go in show but I wanted too. The Showbreeders could tell you more I bet. |
Thank you very much I will do that :) |
You are welcome, I now what its like to be new. Good luck, Please let me know what you find out I would like to know myself |
I sure will :) Looked up red legged yorkies on google and it seems as though you may be right. |
I thought so I had 2 in my lines she looks like they did at that age. She won't get real long hair but it won't mat up as bad and you won't have to pay lots to the groomer they don't mat up as bad. So lots of pluses to having one.. They thow some beautiful pups too. But I don't know that I would breed lots of work and can cost a lot too, good luck with her she is a doll. If you would like I will send you a friends request ok My names Denise I live in North Carolina nice to meet you.:) I still don't know how to do everything here but working on it. lol:animal36 |
3 Attachment(s) Welcome YT their are a lot of very nice knowledgeable helpful people on this site that know much more then me I don't know the answer to your question but your Yorkie sure is a cutie. Is it a boy or girl and what is its name? I have 3 Yorkie pups, Chloe is 17 weeks and 3.1 lbs.has super straight hair and it really short I think for her age especially on her head. I did see the mom when I get her who looked like her hair was silky but it was cut short and my sister-in-law has a 3 year old from the same parents and it has a long beautiful silky coat so I'm hopeful she will to with time. My second Claire Bear 16 weeks 3.4 lbs her hair longer then Chloe's but it is wiry in places, but coming in soft and silver on her head now. My last little baby is 12 weeks and 1lb on the nose has thick hair that is longer then the other two. All 3 are different. |
I think my Chloe might be a red leg. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! It looks to me like she is more silky, but I agree with the other poster that she may be red legged. How much does she weigh? Here is a growth chart, but it of course is not always accurate... Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart - watch us grow |

1 Attachment(s) That is what my Chloe's hair looked like at that age. I think is long on her now that some has grown a little. But she has the the most delicate features and sweet face. Here is a picture of Chloe at 10 weeks |
It looks to me like Lucy might have a silkier type coat as they grow slower.I am no expert though. My Pixie and Nikki have nice silky coats but unfortunately I got Pixie at 13 months and Nikki was 15 years old when I got him so I don't know what they looked like as babies. She is cute. |
