I'm a NEW Mommy! Good Morning fellow fur mommies and daddies! I'm a new Yorkie mommy! My baby Fynnlie was born on June the 1st and he will be coming home August the 21st! I'm not a new fur mommy as I have previously had a Sheltie and I currently have a cat, Tugger. Now, I've never had a dog this small before and I was just wondering if anyone can give me any advice on what to get and what not to get? I've been doing a lot of research but I want some advice from some experienced vetrans of the Small Dog world! Thanks so much, I appreciate anything you guys can say, Jessica |
Welcome to YT and congratulations! Some essentials to purchase for your pup's homecoming: food and water dishes (stainless steel or ceramic) small crate with divider soft bedding first aid kit (check the "stickie" post in the health section of this forum) shampoo (Biogroom's Fluffy Puppy is good and is available at PetSmart) piddle pads if you want to pad train perhaps an xpen and/or baby gates |
Welcome to YT!! You'll find alot of good advise on this forum. The list that Maximo gave it a good one to get start with your new member to the family. |
Welcome and congratulations. It's a good idea to have Nutrical on hand in case of a low sugar attack. One thing I learned is that when picking them up you have to make sure you have a tight grip as they sometimes like to leap out of your arms. Also, they need to be supervised around young children. |
Welcome to YT. You baby has the same birthday as my Sofia. She just turned one on June 1st. The first things I would buy would be an x-pen or playpen, dishes, bed, training pads, small toys and bully sticks, Puppy safe shampoo and conditioner, and of course a good quality food. |
Thanks! Thanks for all the welcoming! :) I appreciate it! I don't have any children so that shouldn't be a problem! I have the bowl and I have a crate but I don't know if it has a divider. I'll have to check. Is there a crate that is TOO big? |
The crate should only be big enough for them to turn around and lay down, no bigger. |
Also, puppy proof your home. Put all electrical cords out of reach, put child safety covers over all of the outlets, scan the floor and any accessible surfaces for choking or toxic hazards, put all houseplants out of reach. |
Oh congratulations! How exciting! |
Congratulations Jessica! |
