Dont know what to do!!!! I have 2 young pups both around 3 months in age. both are female and seem to have a problem getting along sometimes. I was just wondering what should I do to make them stop fighting!? At times they are just sweethearts and they cuddle and everything seems fine..but once I walk away.. all I hear is growling and crying. Please help.. |
Are they just playing? Puppies often "play fight", and considering they are only 3 months old I doubt it's actual fighting. |
Ones actually pretty big and the other is a toy.. so shes tiny.. she yelps like it hurts..ive heard em play and it didnt sound much like a growl to me. |
My .02: If they're just playing and warning each other when it gets too rough, that's a good thing. But you're right not to let it get out of hand if there's the possibility of injury. Can you tell what causes the fighting? Is it toys? Food? Affection? Sometimes if you can control the causes, you can control the fighting. I think the key is really studying whether they're biting hard and hurting one another. If the bites are hard, you need to work on bite inhibition. Let them nibble you, but as soon as they bite hard -- say ouch! Then stop the play while you "lick your wounds." Good luck! |
I've read something here on YT once about jealousy between the two. but I don't really know if that is whats triggering it.. but I will most definitely look into the biting. Thanks. |

They do a lot of learning, from the Mom, and litter mates, from 6-12 weeks. Do continue to break them up, any time there is a danger of injury. |

Also, FYI they are both toys. All yorkies are in the toy group. |
I have two girls as well, 1 yr and 3yr. With the age difference, I have had some pretty rough play around here. I just have to call their names and they stop and look at me with tails wagging so I know they are playing. If I see that one is getting too rough I put a stop to it immediately. With puppies, I think you are going to have a ton of play but you are right to not let it get out of hand. Their mom would control this type of thing.:) ***I also noticed after I had my girls both spayed, the spend more time actually playing with eachother and toys together than fussing/"fighting". |

I have three girl puppies and the two older ones are now 4 months old and they play fight sometimes. They did this more when they were younger. My youngest is only a pound and 3 months so when she plays with them I'm down on the floor with them. I don't think mine are trying to hurt each other they kiss and cuddle play chase to. When they get to ruff one will go yeek and I tell them to play nice if they continue playing ruff I say time out and pick one up until they calm down. The baby tiny one cracks me up because she wants right in their in the mix she growls and it is like don't hold me back let me at them. I also say yike yike when they bite on me and they look at me and then give me a kiss like I'm sorry. |
