Hi everyone I rescued cooper last week he is not fixed and came with papers from the aca,he is 2 years old from what i was told im his 4th person. I had never heard of them before, i did some reseach online because I was interested, cooper is being fixed fri and a dental so I have no intent on breeding him so I know the papers dont mean anything, but wondering if anyone knows anything about the aca and why the aca not the akc, I called the aca cooper was never reg before and he was one of 5 in his litter,, I think it would be cool if i could find his litter mates, anyway isnt 5 in a litter alot? and he is number 5 so the guy said at the aca he was prob born last, does that make him the runt is the runt usually born last? He is small just over 3 pounds. Also does that free puppy report cover aca dogs? I have the name of his breeder but i cant find anything on her anywhere any thoughts how to find her? thanks for the help

I have never heard of the ACA but I would like to congratulate you on your new pup and I'm sure someone who can answer your question will be along soon :)

Personally would never buy a dog that wasn't CKC (canadian) or AKC. Unless it was a rescue or something.

Congrats on your baby boy and giving him a lovely home. I would probably not snoop too much as I learned with my previous dog, she was APRI. I snooped and found out she came from a HUGE puppymill in Missouri.

I think the papers tell more about the breeder than the dog. A dog doesn't need papers, but a breeder does. If a breeder is registered with the AKC that means they are following some MINIMUM standards, and the dog is more likely to be a purebred. Since the AKC cracked down on breeders, puppy millers are looking for alternative registries, and many have cropped up. Here's a link to registries, and what they do. Registries

They say:

ACA - American Canine Association Advertises that over 3000 adult breeding canines are registered each week. Only registry endorsed by Petland. **Caters to commercial breeders.** Refers puppy seekers to pet stores.


I think this means that at one time your dog was sold at Peland. This is another problem I have with pet stores, they aren't looking for long time homes for the dogs, they don't care if someone is qualified to make a commitment, they just want to make a buck. Anyway, I hope Cooper gets all the love he deserves.

Unfortunely anyone can start a Kennel Club and give you papers. That is what is happening all over. As AKC shuts down puppy mills and/or pull papers because they failed the DNA requirements, these puppy mills need to go some where and most often go where ever to get a peice of paper to say it is registered. I heard not to long ago a vet started one somewhere!?!
AKC is 125yrs old and I'm sure the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club, NOT Continental Kennel Club) is that old maybe even older.
Buying from people like these are usually risky at best

thanks for the inof on the puppy report it said you can only get the report if the dog was bought at a pet store I guess i will try anyway, they can just tell me no I guess,,, so far cooper is great dog eager to please and happy, He is learning things now he should have learned years ago in my opinion, He is good going out not a huge fan of a leash but he is a quick learner. He is playing ball cant bring it back yet but goes after it. I was just wondering his backround thats all not sure why just wanted to know.

I have an excel file I downloaded from the USDA website with all the breeders listed on it.

The IG puppy I have right now, that was turned over to me, came from a Petland and is ACA registered. Since I have the puppymiller's name from the papers, and the state she came from, I found the breeder on the list.
