Doggie Daycare Have any of ya'll used a daycare for your Yorkies or any other dog you have~? I was late in picking my Yorkie up today due to the rain coming down in buckets and traffic backed up the wazoo. They told me they close at 6:30 but they would wait. After that, they have no one to watch the dogs. I panic like you wouldn't believe. What would happen if something was to happen to the dogs~? I am overall happy with this place, but haven't used it on a regular basis yet. My dog has been there twice this week, and none the last week. The week before that, he was there twice. The other day, they told me he was with the big dogs outside and later they brought him inside. Today he didn't want to be outside at all, and he hung around the desk with the other little ones but just laid down keeping an eye on things. He doesn't seem interested in playing with the other dogs. He did a couple weeks ago. He's never really played with another dog and I thought this would be a good experience for him but maybe not. He is mostly free to roam here except for nap time, they get crated/kennel. The other place I tried before this, he was crated/kennel more than he had playtime. I appreciate anyone's comments on this situation. |
I haven't because there always seems to be big dogs there. I've always thought a small dog boarding/day care would be a great idea. Do you take him every day? Have you thought about hiring a dog sitting service? They'll come to your house take your dog out to a dog park and for a long walk, play with him at home...etc. It might be less expensive than day care even. |

Both Diva and Crickett were Doggie Daycare regulars. We LOVED it. (Then I moved to a place where doggie daycare cost more than toddler daycare :-/) We used a fantastic daycare. I became friends with the owners. As a result, my niece now works at the daycare! That being said, I think all dogs handle daycare differently. As not all daycares are the same. Its important to know what your daycares regime for your dog is. Do they have set schedules? Who plays with whom, or is it a free for all? How much play time does my pet get? What does the business require for the pets lodged there? How often do they clean? If my pet DOES have to stay overnight, where is he kept? Does anyone make a night visit for potty breaks? HOw early do they come in in the morning.... and the BIG question.... How much will I be CHARGED???? The Petlodge in KY spoiled my babies like crazy. The girls loved it, and I felt better knowing someone was watching them. (Especially with Diva's medical condition.) On the other hand another place I tried never cleaned their "rooms". The dogs were kenneled all day, and they would let large and small dogs play unsupervised. Umm, with a tiny? I dont think so! Now if only I could find another place as good as the Petlodge for such an amazing price!!! |

I'm in Louisville, KY. Is Petlodge here or in another city or town~? I don't know if your refering to me, but when the big dogs and little dogs were outside in the gated area the other day neither the large dogs or small dogs played at all they told me. This place is run by the Humane Society and is very clean and well staffed in the day and afternoon times from what I have seen. Even where they get kenneled for their break time, is very clean and well air-conditioned too. They get potty break twice a day for day-camp. If they are in the outside fenced area, they may go there and that is another potty break. They told me once that they held Maxwell and he really enjoyed being held, so they do get attention there. |
I am hoping some more replies here, so I am bumping up this thread~! Have any of ya'll boarded your dog for the day or when on vacation~? Did you have good experiences~? It seems like he likes it one time and the next time he doesn't. He likes pouts like a kid and doesn't want to eat or play. Is that normal~? Could that be why he felt overheated when I picked him up~? Or is that because of him jumping up and down when he saw me coming in to pick him up and he got excited~? |
I have before when $ wasn't so tight. I loved and still love the facility we used. They have Little Dog Land specifically for small dogs with an indoor and outdoor play area. Toys, things to jump on, sprinklers to play in. It's fantastic! Hopefully once my fiancé and I are done with the whole wedding and buying a house thing, daycare will be something we can again afford for the babies. Luckily, for now, they have each other to play with all day. I also often bring my babies to work with me. |
Daycare I heard Petsmart has a great Daycare/ Lodging. I do not have one close to me but Lancaster PA and Bethesda Md does I visited both of them.If you have one close check it out:animal36 |
Sophie Kate goes to daycare and honestly I have mixed reviews. Since she has gone to daycare there has been two cases of her attacking other dogs (yes she started it), in both cases she was sitting on the handlers lap and the other dog tried to join them. Sophie Kate is very socialized and has a ton of little dog friends, I was shocked on both reports but the handler worked with me to get her over the aggression. Now we have a problem where sometimes she is aggressive towards our cat, that is will never be allowed so we are working on that at home. |
