Gold hair My 2 year old yorkie has gold hair coming through the black on his back. I don't think this should be. I thought it should be grey, silver, or blue.I had a yorkie and the color was blue and gold. He is very healthy and the perfect size, but his coat texture and color are different. I bought him from a very reputable breeder. Any suggestions? |

Hummm I would call the Breeder and ask her if any of her previous pups had this or the parents..let us know if you find anything. |

I did talk to my breeder and is not aware of this in any of her yorkies. When she was young he had a brown cast in sunlight but thought it was hormones. Her sire was a champion and took time to clear his color, but did not have gold in the black. |

Kimbo turned 1 on May 2nd and shortly thereafter, he started to turn gold on his shoulder blades and hips. The color is slowly moving inward. He has a modified coat and I've been told he could change until he's 3. The gold isn't clear yet, as it's still intermingled with black. I would send you a photo, but it doesn't photograph true to the color with my camera. |

I was hoping someone would have answers to why she is coming in more gold than blue/gray. I will try and send a picture. |

Try posting in the breeder's forum. You may get more results there. :aimeeyorkYorkieProud:aimeeyork :pIF YOU DON'T LIKE THE WAY I SPOIL MY YORKIES, THEN I DON'T LIKE YOUR ATTITUDE AND THE WAY YOU LOOK!!!:p |

My Jewels hair is doing the same thing and now she has alot of gold on her bsck. I cant explain it because it was silver mixed with some gold hair before |

This is called running gold where gold is showing up in the blue colour pattern. Usually the gold hair that shows up in the blue, is a little coarser. It is a fault and not usually a good idea to use these as breeding stock as that will be passed on in the progeny or further down the line but they are perfectly healthy pets. Often the running gold shows up by about a year of age or shortly after. It can skip generations so knowing sire and dam doesn't tell the whole story. If the coat is clipped short, the running gold will disappear and you will have the blue saddle until the coat grows out again, then you will see the running gold again. Some will run so much gold, they look like gold yorkies but you can see the blue saddle usually underneath especially when you clip the coat very short. |

I was going to ask this question but never did. Tila is 2 as well, and she has gold coming in. I was surprised, she took her time changing hair colors and now there's gold. |

Thanks Lorraine for the information. Do you have any pictures showing a yorkie that is running gold? |

The ones not running quite that much gold might look like a muddy blue on the hips and/or where the blue is on the body from the gold hairs intermingling with the blue. But if y ou clip the coat short as in with a 7 blade, the running gold is not so noticable and you will see the blue saddle and gold furnishings. |
