People Dogs I worry about leaving my 6 month old Yorkie home by himself. I know that Yorkie's are people animals and love to be around people. I have to be away fromt he house from 8-9 hours a day, every day but weekends. So far, other than getting really excited, he has shown any adverse conditions, attitude ect. I guess I'm just wondering other peoples experiences????? |
Sorry I don't have any advice, but would like to welcome you to YT!! |
I placed a puppy with a young couple , both of them work ... they had a dog walker coming in every day for a while, 2 times, to play and be there with 'Ollie" , then as he grew up , they decided to send Ollie 2 times a week to doggi day care so he can be socialized and the other 3 days they would stil have the dog walker only one time per day. Eventually they added another one, Clementine, again did the same routine, 2 times a day dog walker... then 1 time a day after she grew up. Now Ollie and Clementine make each other company during the day while their humans go to work, they still go to doggi day care once a week, but they are trained to 'go" outside, so the dog walker comes once a day anyways. I usually prefer to place my puppies with people who stay home or work from home, but was i ever so pleased with these people, they had all figured out when they came here for their first visit. Then we discussed it for a while and they proved me more than able to be great parents to 2 of my yorkies. They are about a year apart from each other ... What i want to say is, with good planning and thinking ahead you can make arrangements to have a healthy happy dog, even if you need to go to work, or go back to school or else ... I am sure you figure something out ! Blessings XOXO |
I am gone from home about the same amount hours you are so Brandi is home alone during that time. However, I work from home every wednesday so she's only alone at the most two days in a row. Brandi does fine on the days she is alone. She sleeps most of the day in her ex-pen. I have water, pee-pads and her bed in there. I also have webcam setup so I can check in on her. To be honest I think she likes it when I am gone because she can sleep undisturbed for the whole time :D. When I work from home, I am constantly waking her up so I can play with her, or walk her so she doesn't really get any sleep when I am home all day...more like cat naps. My Brandi can sleep 20 hours but then again she is a lot more older. |

I love your idea of the web cam :D very clever. The Xpan is an excellent advice about safety ! XOXO |
Hammer is almost 9 months old. My boyfriend and I work 8-9 hours a day M-F. We have left him alone for that long since he was about 4 months. He is doing just fine and has seem to help with the potty training also. We enclose him in our bedroom (not a cage.. i cant stand that he doesnt have water for too long). We have central air and I leave out toys for him. |
