Yorkie 14 wks I was wondering if anyone has had great success in getting their yorkie potty trained. Mine does great during the daytime, will go to door and go out and do his business. But at night - he forgets everything. Any suggestions? |
I would suggest setting your alarm and taking him out yourself at certain times through out the night until he gets the hang of it :) |
Is he in his crate at night or can he roam all over the place? If so, you might not get his signs that he has to go outside while you are asleep. |
Yeah I agree, I think you should put him in a crate at night. He wont want to go potty in his crate so will cry if he really needs to go so you can let him out, It will also teach him that he can hold it :) |
Rosco Actually he is crate trained or getting there. And I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear, this pertains to the early evening hours of 7-10pm while I'm awake. And no he does not have free reign of the house. Maybe its me and I'm so paranoid he's going to do something I "dog" him in those hours that it may be making him nervous. My dad stays with him during the day and he's been going to the door to be let out and then when I get home he forgets. Last night we were outside for 30 minutes - nothing. Brought him back in put him in crate for 10 min and went back outside for another 30 minutes - nothing. Came back in and wham he peed in kitchen. I don't get it. |
Don't forget he is still so young. I read on other threads that Yorkies are really hard to get housebroken. My little one is 4 1/2 months old and has barely any accidents in the house anymore, but still sometimes when my hubby comes home and I was just bragging on how well Merlin is doing . Just get him out on a schedule and give him treats and lots of praise when he did his business outside. |
Well, I figured out it was me and my nerves. I relaxed last night and he did great. Plus I have to remember he hasn't seen me all day and so he is just so excited I'm home and wants to play. So I've relaxed. This morning he went to the door and I placed him in his outside pen and he went #1 & #2 right away. So it's momma's nerves. I'll get over it. He is the best little guy though! Coming along really well for his young age. Thanks for all your input folks. |
LOL!! Don't worry, we all have momma's nerves. It's good you figured out what it was....most people wouldn't have thought about just relaxing a bit. He's still young but he does seem to be doing really good. |
my puppy has improved, he lets us know if he wants to go out by roaming, he has the odd wee on the floor. we put down puppy pads so he can on there if he wants to but ideal we want him go go outside as he will get used to going to toilet outside when he can go out. he doesnt normally mess in the night |
