"Lining" an Exercise pen? hello again! Another question! :-D i'm going to pick up my Bailey in about 2 weeks and i'm going to get an exercise pen for him. I've seen a lot of pictures where people line it with some kind of cloth.. I even saw baby crib lining. I guess my question is should I leave the pen as is, on a hardwood floor? Or should I line it with soft material? Does it make it safer? I was planning on putting his bed, wee pad, and toys in there.. Just need some advice. :-) thanks in advance! |
I used vinyl tablecloths, they are cheap and easy to clean up. If they got torn, no big deal. |

FYI- This is the setup I used for a 1.5 year old that I was switching from outside potty to inside. Regardless of where we were living (our old place or our current one) it was going to be carpeted, so I really wanted him to learn the diff between piddle pads and carpet. take what you like from all the suggestions. There is no one right way to do it. :) |
aww thank you Dvlsh! My boyfriend's a little tipsy and he made a "toast" to me.. He said "To bailey. I know you will make a great mommy" I was so happy to hear him say that!! sorry sorry! Lol I would love for him to differeniate between a carpet and a wee pad.. That's why I considered putting something like a bed sheet underneathe the pen.. My breeder said he's been going to the pad quite often. |
I am using the large washable pee pads under the play yard I have Pixie in right now. Works great. |
Exercise pen I used a shower curtain liner. Cheap, easy to cut to fit, and washable. Good luck with your new baby. |
I bought a couple of these Go Go pen covers. They are inexpensive, attach to the tops or bottoms of the square x pens (4' x 4' size) they are waterproof and clean easy. I highly recommend it ;-) Amazon.com: 4' x 4' GoGo Exercise Pen UV Top / Cover Royal Blue: Kitchen & Dining |
I put the table cloths under the pen so they were a little bigger than the pen, just in case. |

I can try the vinyl table cloths, but that doesn't bother the baby's paws? Stepping on plastic all the time? |
I used a shower curtain |
No, didn't bother her. I put a pad at one end and her food and bed at the other. She played in the middle. It was easy to clean or if it got bad, I just threw it away and put down a new one. I got them cheep at Kmart or any place I found them, most for a dollar or two. They have a flannel back so they wont scratch wood floors, worked for us. |
I just got my pen. It came from fedex and they lobbed it onto my porch. :-/ I opened it up and it's pretty big.. I hope having a big pen is in no detrimental. I'd figure the more room, the more play. :-) |
